I have all my photos stored on my G: drive (external) and a backup drive for my images on F: (external). I recently updated all of the images on my backup drive (F:). I copy new folders from my G: drive to my F: drive, something I have done for quite a few years and now Lightroom will not recognize my G: drive as the home of my images, in fact, when I tried to import images to my G: drive, it would not recognize the G: drive, instead, it wanted to put the images on my F: drive (Backup) I unplugged the F: drive and Lightroom still shows it as an available drive, but it is blacked out. I cannot even create new folders for Import for the G: drive as Lightroom does not even recognize it. The crazy thing is that File Explorer still shows the G: drive and all the files on it.

So my main question is how do I restore Lightroom so that it recognizes the correct drive, G:, as my image collection drive?

Can I/Should I reinstall Lightroom? If so, how do I do that from the Creative Cloud app? Other possible solutions?

Is there something that needs to be done to, or with, the catalog?

As I really don't understand where this problem originates, or how it originated, any and all helpful suggestions are quite welcome.

It almost sounds like you moved (copied) the files form G: to F: inside Lightroom, else Lightroom would have no knowledge of it.

Reloading Lightroom wouldn't make any difference (imho), although if you want to, then yes, from within the CC App (select Classic, uninstall).

I'd also delete the Helper file (next to the catalog) in case that got corrupted; and trash Preferences, any corruption in there can cause all sorts of odd behavior.

If none of that helps, what happens if you Update Folder Location (for the top-level folder) from F: to G:?

Paul, thanks for your response and ideas. It is and they appreciated. To address you ideas:

1. Rest assured, I am positive that I did not do any of the copying inside Lightroom as I do not do backups that way. They are always done outside Lightroom. That way, Lightroom does not know its files are being copied to an update drive. Lightroom does not need to know that its files from the day to day operation are being copied to another drive.
2. I will trash the Preferences file and see what happens. I am assuming that Lightroom will rebuild this one. Currently, the Lightroom CC Helper file/folder is empty.
3. It is unclear to me how to " Update Folder Location (for the top-level folder) from F: to G:?" I am assuming this is done from inside Lightroom, I just don't quite understand how to do this. Can you tell me the process for doing this. Thanks.

This problem is "finished", but was never resolved. Thw new version of Lightroom has created more problems to be documented in a new posting.
