How do I add copyright data to approximately 500 previously imported photos.
I've never added copyright data to any of my 39,000 photos.
Will the copyright data go into the lightroom catalog, or onto the actual photos?

The Metadata panel contains a copyright field or fields. You add this info to the catalog and it is associated with the image. It will be added to and export. But since Lightroom is a non destructive editor, it will not e retroactively added to the original image file. Your camera settings can add the Copyright to any new images. If you want to add it to the original image that was imported, you wil need an editor that can update the original image.
