Would you mind me logging into your system sometime to try to help you resolve your issue? You'd be able to see exactly what I'm doing and to disconnect me anytime whenever you'd feel uncomfortable with it.

If you REALLY need to remove them before importing, you'd have to use a separate program (like ExifTool) to remove the keywords.
But, OTOH, why not just
Select all images within the "Previous Import" collection
Delete all keywords in the keyword entry box
Purge unused keywords
I cannot reproduce what you're reporting. A couple of questions:
What LR Version do you use (please take the time to complete your profile)
Did you physically delete the images from disk, or just remove them from the catalog?

This looks as expected. You should copy the folders
from the portable, external hard drive to "My Lightroom Photos", while maintining the same folder structure (see step 3 above).
