There are multiple ways of getting your books to your Android device. This is one option that I’ve tested:
- Go to the Google Play Store and download an eBook app such as Google Play Books.
- Open Play Books, tap your avatar in the search field and go to Play Book Settings and Enable PDF uploading. You may also want to Save notes, highlights and bookmarks in Google Drive. (This saves the book to the cloud so it’s available on all of your Google Drive connected devices.)
- Log into the Members Area on your device using Chrome. (Other browsers may also work, but Chrome has been tested!)
- Go to the Content & Downloads page. The pages are grouped by membership/book.
- Scroll down to the eBook Downloads page for the book and press the View button.
- Scroll down to the download links and tap the format you want to download. (I’d recommend PDF or ePub – tap here to learn the difference. If you want to sync to your Kindle, use these instructions instead.)
- Be patient… they’re sizable files (around 30MB) so they may take a little time to show up.
- Send the file to Google Play:
- If you downloaded the PDF, tap the… icon > Open With > Upload to Play Books to make it available on your other Android devices.
- If you downloaded the ePub, tap Open to open the book in Play Books.
- If you’re not quick enough, swipe down from the top of the screen to view your Downloads and tap to open.
- If you downloaded the PDF, tap the… icon > Open With > Upload to Play Books to make it available on your other Android devices.
- It may take a little time to upload the book to your Google Drive (marked as processing) before it’s available to open.
- The app has a variety of annotation tools, in addition to search, table of content and bookmarks.
You can also download the books using your desktop web browser and upload them to Play Books by visiting https://play.google.com/books, making them available in the Play Books app on your mobile devices.
