gmail account won't validate in Lr email acct manager

I previously was able to email photos directly from Lr using my gmail act, but now I can't.

The field auto populates:

SMPT server: smtp.googlemail.com

SMPT port: 465

Connection Security: doesn't work with any of the drop down menu choices including "none"

Authentication: doesn't validate whether I choose password or none

It worked previously, not sure what has changed. Any ideas?

Mine works with port 465 and SSL\TLS and password. I'm using version CC2015.1.1/6.1.1. What version are you using?

Have you agreed to use "reduced security standards" to access gmail? If so, how did you do it? And are you concerned about security risks associated with this choice?

This Gmail account is not important and not critical. If I gets compromised there won't be a big loss on my part. I actually opted in to two factor authentication sometime back. Google will only send a numeric code to your phone whenever you sign in from an untrusted computer or device. All of my computers are trusted devices. So, Google sees this IP address as trusted when ever LR sends a Gmail.

Using Gmail to send email from Lr when you have 2 step verification enabled.

The reason I couldn't validate gmail is because I had 2 step verification turned on. Go to support.google .com and find this page:


Sign in using App Passwords

An App password is a 16-digit passcode that gives an app or device permission to access your Google Account. If you use 2-Step-Verification and are seeing a “password incorrect” error when trying to access your Google Account, an App password may solve the problem. Most of the time, you’ll only have to enter an App password once per app or device, so don’t worry about memorizing it.
Note: If you have iOS 8.3 on your iPhone or OSX 10.10.3 on your Mac, you will no longer have to use App passwords to use 2-Step Verification.

How to generate an App password

1. Visit your App passwords page. You may be asked to sign in to your Google Account.
2. At the bottom, click Select app and choose the app you’re using.
3. Click Select device and choose the device you’re using.
4. Select Generate.
5. Follow the instructions to enter the App password (the 16 character code in the yellow bar) on your device.
6. Select Done.

Once you are finished, you won’t see that App password code again. However, you will see a list of apps and devices you’ve created App passwords for.
Note: You may not be able to create an App password for less secure apps. Learn more about allowing less secure apps.

You need to add Lightroom to your list of apps then copy the 16 digit code that pops up. Next go to Lightrooms email account manager (File>Email Photos> click on drop down menu under "From" and paste the 16 digit code instead of your usual password) It should then validate.
