Lightroom Classic 12.0.1 has been released today. This is a special double-dot release purely to address some bugs found in the 12.0 released last week. One of the major issues fixed is for macOS Ventura if using an external disk for catalog(s.)
For details on the other features that were added in 12.0, see our blog post What’s New in Lightroom Classic 12.0 (October 2022)?
New bugs…
Bug fixes:
This is an update purely for bug fixes. Adobe only publishes the ones that were reported by users.
- Catalog Upgrade or New Catalog failing if Catalog location is on an external disk (Ventura issue).
- LrC 12 backup not including the .lrcat-data file.
- Unable to export: Watermarking Failed.
- Unable to view System info on some Windows machines.
If you find a bug, click here to learn how to report it to Adobe.
How do I update?
To update, go to Help menu > Updates or click the Update button in the CC app. The update servers take a while to push the updates around the world. This is deliberate to avoid overloading the servers. You can also open the Creative Cloud app, click the … icon (top right) and select Check for Updates to give it a nudge.
Is the book updated?
The eBooks for Adobe Lightroom Classic – The Missing FAQ are not only updated, but all the previous changes since 2020 are now included in the main text of the book. The latest release of the book is the 3rd Edition, released today. The book can be downloaded immediately after purchasing. If you already have a current Lightroom Classic Premium Membership, the updated eBooks are available for download in your Members Area.

As of early this morning I got confirmation back for Sunil at Adobe that the backing up of lrcat files to a NAS has been fixed in release 12.1

Thanks Matt. We’re under press embargo for another couple of hours, so look out for the blog post soon.

Hmm… it’s approaching 4 weeks since the bug regarding LR 12.0.1 catalogs that can’t be backed up to a NAS was acknowledged by Adobe (on 10/31). Seems way too long for such a critical issue not to be addressed. Left a post on the bug link asking the same.

Just a bit of background… releases are scheduled about every 2 months. They’ll sometimes rush a double dot out almost immediately after a release for critical/data loss issues, but those are fairly rare. Apart from anything else, rushing out a release has greater risks of creating new bugs that wouldn’t be caught in time (like this one!), so the threshold has to be pretty high.
Since backup works on internal and external drives, and it’s not failing silently, it would be considered a high priority bug but not quite critical enough for a double dot. Based on the normal release schedule, it’ll likely be mid-December.

I’ve noticed that the Auto Tone button now results in absolutely horrible orange skin tones and insanely blown out whites. This started in 11.5 or 12.0 I believe. It has ruined my workflow. Is it possible I have something else interfering with the algorithm the Auto Tone uses to make its adjustments? The only preset I am using is the default Lens + CA preset. I’m shooting RAW with a Canon R5C and Lightroom is operating on the imported CR3 files.
Victoria Bampton says
Nothing’s changed in Auto Tone for a long time, so without seeing the files, it’s hard to take a guess. I’d suggest you post on the forum (link in the menubar) with some before/after examples so we can take a better guess.

Hello Victoria
Has the “done” button been removed for example after changing the crop? When I wanted to click “done” there is now a “previous” button.

The Done button was replaced for local adjustments in 12.0 – see our post:
