Lightroom Classic 11.3 has been released today. There are a couple of small added features, as well as performance improvements, bug fixes and new camera/lens support. The entire Lightroom Cloud ecosystem has also been updated.
Update – confirmed bugs in 11.3…
- Open Catalog causing substrate.dll issue and crashing (some Windows systems) – acknowledged issue.
- Default Metadata shows Original and Cropped as same dimensions.
- Spot Removal Tool Size slider behaves erratically beyond a value of 75 (Windows only).
Masking Updates
It’s now possible to deselect a mask by Ctrl- clicking (Windows) / Cmd-clicking (Mac) on the Masking panel.
When using the Alt and arrow keys (Windows) / Opt and arrow keys (Mac) to navigate around the Masking panel, it now loops around when you get to the top or bottom of the list.
Reset Preferences
There’s a new Reset Preferences button in the Preferences dialog > General tab that only shows up when you hold down the Alt (Windows) / Opt (Mac) key.
Performance
As usual, Adobe’s been working on performance improvements. This time, there’s some improvements to the speed of displaying metadata in the Metadata panel when large numbers of photos are selected.

How do I update?
To update, go to Help menu > Updates or click the Update button in the CC app. The update servers take a while to push the updates around the world, to avoid overloading the servers. You can also open the Creative Cloud app, click Update on the left, then click the … icon (top right) and Check for Updates to give it a nudge.

Hi Victoria, I updated to 11.3 and all the catalogues are empty now. Presets disaapeard too (those created on missing files). Is there any easy way to recover them? I have Windows 10. Strange is that I did the update 3 days ago, but 2 days ago everything was ok. Today when I started LR all the files are missing.
Victoria Bampton says
That sounds like the wrong catalog got opened. Search your hard drive for files with a LRCAT extension.

Was editing a shoot yesterday and came across a bug in 11.3. Im on Mac OS X 12.3.1, when syncing settings between files the thumbnails do not update unless i go into the development window, once i go back to the grid view the thumbnail goes back to not being updated. Super annoying and a deal breaker for me, will roll back to 11.2. Unfortunate because I did notice that LC was running much faster than 11.2, but if I cant see changes in files I cant work the way I need to. I did try turning off my GPU fyi and that did not help.

This is under investigation by Adobe, others have reported this bug:

It would be helpful to add comments / upvote the issue with Adobe.

Reset Preferences.
Is this a new / upgraded feature which resets the preferences, but keeps the user settings or is it just a cosmetic change in terms of making the option available and just doing the equivalent of a factory reset and trashing the accumulated user settings.
Victoria Bampton says
It does exactly the same thing as the existing methods, it’s simply a button for those who can’t remember the shortcut combinations or file locations.
Matt O'Brien says
Thanks for the info. Such a pity Lightroom does not remember my previous settings. If people could reset the parameter file as part of regular mtce, then there may be less ad hoc glitches. Better still if Adobe performed such a cleanup as part of a normal exit from Lightroom.

Problem updating from 11.2 to 11.3 on Win 10 pro – after the update, immediately after opening LR crashes. This has been reported several times on Adobe support forum with label Crash (11.3) – Launch/Open Catalog – faulting module: substrate.dll : 411196 (Windows.
I was successfully able to uninstall 11.3 and reinstall the old version 11.2 but this was a major pain in bum.
John Lehet says
I skipped 11.2 because the bugs there seemed like show stoppers and 11.1 was the first version in forever that didn’t have any bugs that bothered me, so I stuck with it. Just tried 11.3 on the M1 Mac and it feels distinctly zippier. Export worked. Seems to use all the CPU more aggressively, mostly good, but it did bog down the rest of the mac while doing an export to the extent I couldn’t type an email. This seems good so far!

Hello Victoria,
Following a couple of the links in the Bug Fixes section takes me to an Adobe page to “Renew”, Correct or not?
eg. the link for “Page Loss in Book Module” takes me to-

Many thanks, we just corrected that link!

I am currently running the old “standalone” version of Lr 6.14. It is NOT on the cloud. My computer is a new Surface Pro 2. Can I use Lr 11.3 as an update to my Lightroom program WITHOUT getting involved with all the cloud stuff and the annual fee? Thanks!
RobertCullen says
No. LrC 11.3 is only available by a subscription (paid monthly or annually), and for a minimum 12month contract. It works ‘locally’ just the same as v6.14.
The “Cloud stuff” you do not need to get involved, BUT you do need to install the Adobe Creative Cloud DESKTOP APP that allows you to download and install Apps (LrC in your “Photography” subscription plan). It also checks you are ‘financial’ and Activates the Apps by being ‘Signed In’.

Export problems have been solved–Finally.

I have updated on both Mac OS Monterey and Windows 11. On my Windows 11 LrC crashed on opening the catalog file. I thought this could be catalog file related, and did perform Optimize catalog several times. Still LrC crashed when opening the catalog file from 11.2.
So I started rolling back to 11.2. Then I had to open Task manager and stop CR LogTransport, before LrC 11.3 could be uninstalled.
When 11.2 ws reinstalled, the catalog file opened normally.
Mike says
I had exactly the same problem and I fixed it exactly the same…went back to 11.2.
I had to re import the catalogue because it was all messed up!
gegjrphotography says
Does 11.3 require catalog name change?
Paul McFarlane says
Not if you’re coming from 11.1 or 11.2. If from an earlier version, then yes.
Lyndon Stacy says
Can I move from LrC 6.14 to LrC 11.3 somehow?
I am running Lightroom on a Mac Late 2012, V10.14.6.
Paul McFarlane says
The minimum macOS is 10.15 – then you can (should simply be a security update to your current version of Catalina). Bear in mind later in the year when the successor to Monterey is released, support for Catalina will cease.
Arnold Hoddevik says
When moving from Lightroom 6.14 to Lightroom Classic 11.3, you only need to upgrade the catalog file, when opening the catalog file in 11.3.
But keep in mind, that Lightroom 11 has other system requirements than Lightroom 6. Please read the system requirements.
Lr 6 could run on 32 bits cpu, but 11.3 can not. You need a 64 bit cpu. You also need at least Catalina OS version, at least 8 Gb memory (16 Gb or more recomended), and you need a GPU with metal support.
