Lightroom Classic 11.3.1 has been released today. It follows 11.3 which was released last week (see our blog What’s New in Lightroom Classic 11.3?) It’s a quick bug fix release, especially for the Windows issue that caused many to have to roll back to 11.2. The bugs fixed are:
- Open Catalog causing substrate.dll issue and crashing (some Windows systems).
- Default Metadata shows Original and Cropped as same dimensions.
Previous Bug fixes in 11.3:
There are a number of bug fixes, but Adobe only publishes the ones that were reported by users:
- Undo Move Keyword not refreshing Keyword List
- New Keywords not appearing in Auto Complete since 11.2
- Publish Collection update stalling
- Print crashes if incorrect number of pages entered
- Panels shake when Mask Panel Docked and Edit Stack Expanded (on Apple M1)
- Panel Switch Toggle setting ignored if set to ‘off’ when Paste > From Previous
- If an lrtemplate file is dropped onto the LrC icon, the app crashes
- Page loss in Book Module if switching between different sized PDF books
- Wacom: Invert Stylus not erasing Brush Strokes
- Wacom: Pressure sensitivity not as precise as in ACR
- Wacom: Adjustment Brush stutters & performance issues
- Wacom: small movements of Adjustment Brush fail
- Catalog opening in 10.4 not opening in 11.0
- Click ‘Zoom to Fill’ in Print Module shows incorrect preview image
- Windows: right-click options missing for Map pins / clusters

How do I update?
To update, go to Help menu > Updates or click the Update button in the CC app. The update servers take a while to push the updates around the world, to avoid overloading the servers. You can also open the Creative Cloud app, click Update on the left, then click the … icon (top right) and Check for Updates to give it a nudge.

The eBooks for Adobe Lightroom Classic – The Missing FAQ are already updated for these changes, and can be downloaded immediately after purchasing. If you already have a current Lightroom Classic Premium Membership, the updated eBooks are available for download in your Members Area.
I have noticed the LR Classic Windows V11.3.1 has caused the Map Module to fail with the statement “Page didnt load google maps correctly”.
I have restarted LRC several times and reboooted my machine, all without success.
I have reported the bug to Adobe.
Cheers
Peter
It has started working again an hour later – my only action was a second reboot.
I still see the “Default Metadata shows Original and Cropped as same dimensions” with LrC 11.3.1 on my macOS 11.6.5 and Win 11 laptop.
Make sure you report it on the linked thread so the engineers can investigate further. It’s possible that there was more than one bug with the same results.
I have checked with a couple other users that are following the issue. It appears that users who do not have “Automatically write metadata to xmp” selected experience the bug.
Thanks Denis
All the uploads of the last 2 weeks vanished…
You’ve almost certainly opened a different catalog. Most frequently that’s because someone’s been working in a backup catalog.
Since installing the update the “Done” button for cropping and masking has gone MIA. A web search found reports of the same problem from years ago but not recently.
Has anybody else experienced this glitch

LRC Map Module has consistent problems in V11.3/V11.3.1 running in Windows 11 Pro with AMD GPU. I’ve reverted to 11.2, and issues have not reoccurred.
I have reported to Adobe.
Good you reported, the more scenarios that Adobe get information on, the more it helps to get a fix.
Hi, experiencing a lot of bugs in 11.3.1…Adobe is gathering system information but is basically quite on it..
i) whenever I start LR it is doing “something” with high CPU load for 10 to 15 min…grtanted, BUT..I cannot change or quit LR in this time period, it continues in the background and does not react to catalog changes or re-starts
ii) selecting an image and paste some (simple, e.g. just make it B&W) developmenmt settimg and the preview does NOT change afterwards…bringing the image up into development it shows the updated image, going back to grid view shows for a second the developed image BUT flips back to the previous change after 1 sec….nothing helps other then to restart LR, see i)
Any comment?
It would be interesting to know whether you see the same “doing something” after optimizing. And also, which version you were using before 11.3.1, as there were only a couple of bug fixes in the double dot.
I have seen reports of the preview not updating correct, I believe that one’s under investigation.
Optimizing asks to restart LR after completion..so I run into the same thingy…restarting lets (the initial instance) LR work in background and hinders to lauch a new LR process…task manager shows Adobe LR and dynamiclinkmanager running forever…
I always use latest version and update accordingly to the cloud desktop thing…so I stepped the version ladder one step after the other…
Annoyingly, while trying to trust Adobe’s updating it finally introduces worries about new updates…
There was only a couple of tiny changes between 11.3 and 11.3.1, so it seems odd that you hadn’t hit these issues in 11.3.
The previews issue was present in 11.3, so that one I’m less surprised about.
There was a one-time optimization just after launch in 11.3 that could potentially be getting stuck, might be interesting to check a backup catalog to see if you see the same there.
I see exactly the same issues. v11.3.1 is a nightmare update. No update of the previews, LR is lame and CPU running fullspeed most of the time.
And LR resetted again all my settings like export and sharpening templates.
This is the worst update for a long time.
Bonjour,
Malgré que j’ai coché la case Ecrire automatiquement les modifications au format XMP dans les fichiers annexes, je ne l’ai trouvent pas en exportation NEF dans mon dossier
Pourquoi?
Bien cordialemnt
D.RENAT
XMP files are only written after a change to the file (an edit has been made), and are stored in the original location next to the raw file, not when you Export.
You can force Lightroom to write an XMP file by selecting the photo in Lightroom (must be a raw file) and Ctrl / Cmd + S.
How do you create a target collection with the new update? I can only set the Quick Collection as the target.
That hasn’t changed, you still right-click on the collection and choose Set as Target Collection.
