Lightroom Classic 10.3 has been released today. The entire Lightroom Cloud ecosystem has also been updated.
Notable new confirmed bugs (updated 11 June):
Recent notable bugs from 10.x that aren’t fixed yet.
Apple M1 Chip Compatibility
There is now a native version of Classic to run on the new Apple M1 chips. All features are working as expected except tethering. When you start tethering, a dialog offers to automatically launch the Intel/Rosetta 2 version that does support tethering. The next time you launch Lightroom, it automatically reverts to the native code again.
Super Resolution
Previously only available in Adobe Camera Raw, you can now run Super Resolution directly from within Lightroom. It’s an extension of the existing Enhance feature. You can find it under the Photo menu or simply right-click on a photo (or photos) and select Enhance.
Enhance uses advanced machine learning to extract the finest details, reduce artifacts and intelligently increase the resolution of your best photos. It’s particularly useful for large prints or enlarging photos that have been heavily cropped. There are two checkboxes: Raw Details extracts maximum detail when demosaicing a raw file, which was previously known as Enhance. The new Super Resolution resolution uses AI to preserve greater detail while doubling the size of your photo.
You can read all about it direct from Eric Chan, the engineer responsible for this feature.
Preset Changes
There’s a whole load of new presets included with this release.
For compatibility with Adobe Camera Raw, presets are now stored as a flat list in the Settings or Imported Settings folders, rather than divided into subfolders, but this doesn’t affect normal preset usage.
Scrolling by Page (Library Grid view)
There’s a new View menu > Scroll by Row option that scrolls by a full line of thumbnails at a time. If you hold down Shift then it scrolls a whole page at a time.

How do I update?
To update, go to Help menu > Updates or click the Update button in the CC app. The update servers take a while to push the updates around the world, to avoid overloading the servers. You can also open the Creative Cloud app, click Update on the left, then click the … icon (top right) and Check for Updates to give it a nudge.
Lightroom Classic book
The eBooks for Adobe Lightroom Classic – The Missing FAQ are already updated for these changes, and can be downloaded immediately after purchasing. If you already have a current Lightroom Classic Premium Membership, the updated eBooks are available for download in your Members Area.
10.3 on Apple M1 laptops has two, at least major bugs:
– every time I open any catalogue I get “unexpected error” but if I click try again it open just fine
– secondly and much bad is that every time I process standard previews it sucks up all my CPU power leaving the laptop almost unresponsive. Checking Activity Monitor I am left with 0.56% CPU left!
And overall, Lightroom is the only app which makes my laptop to get very warm, in usual not when exporting or generating previews (when it get vey hot)
That would be worth giving as feedback to Adobe. We know quite a number of M1 users who haven’t mentioned this. With the M1-specific version of Lightroom only just arriving, there are some aspects still be worked on (tethering for example in native mode) so the more feedback at this stage the better.
Include the spec of your laptop (is it 8Gb RAM or 16?) – here’s the Adobe site:

Not sure if this is related to the LR CC 10.3 Update as I just bought a new Canon R5 and notice there are no Camera Matching Profiles for the R5. Found a list of cameras supported with profiles and note R5 is not on the list but wondering if they are coming in future updates. Thanks
It’s not a 10.3 issue. Honestly, from the outside, we just don’t know. It would appear that there are some issues between Canon and Adobe. Since Canon would have all the information Adobe needs, it suggests they’re not playing ball. But that is pure speculation based on the information available.
Apologies, posted this in the wrong place on Cloud Service page. No updates coming through for me in HK a week after the release. I don’t know what the lag typically is from first roll out to last.
Normally within 24 hours. This is most strange. I’d be temped to log out (of the CC App) and back in again – see if this clears any connection issue with your account.
Yours is the only occurrence of this we heard (I appreciate that doesn’t help!)
I have logged out and back in but still no update. Very frustrating.
OK I have worked out the problem and have now updated. It might be useful for others to know what happened. I am in HK and I use a VPN. I change the VPN server regularly. Yesterday it was set to UK. Before that Germany and before that Australia. As soon as I switched off the VPN it updated. I have used a VPN for a long time but it chooses the best connection if you allow it to do so. Often it chooses HK. So I suspect if Adobe sees my internet IP address as HK it is ok. If it sees something else it regards that as suspicious and does not update. Anyway, now updated. Thanks.
Oh well done, thanks for the update.
Just tried the enhance option on a jpg image and it just seems to sit there and no output dng is created. Does the effect only work on dng source files?
No, the super resolution option should work on JPEGs. You could try turning off the GPU in Preferences > Performance in case there’s a conflict, or try updating the GPU driver.
Does anyone know if Grain rendering in Develop module has been fixed?
Tested myself. As was expected with a Adobe, they haven’t fixed it while prioritizing some of the smaller issues first… Good job 👌
I don’t know the prioritization decisions made around this bug, but it looks to me like this one is probably down to the Camera Raw team to fix, and the other smaller issues you mention were under the Lightroom team. No excuses, I do agree serious bugs should be fixed quickly, but there’s probably more to it than we can see. Many of the engineers are based in India and have been affected by the awful Covid increases there.
That is correct, Victoria. The Camera Raw team has point on this bug.
Probably makes sense and I hope that everyone’s doing well here and there. If it is so I would just wish for better communication on issues and at least approximate fix schedules. Also increased update frequency would mean a ton as there is no problem in releasing hotfixes and minor updates for PS in timely manner, but with LR/ACR it’s always the oldschool 2-3 month gaps, then the bug isn’t fixed in the next update and bam, almost a year passed and you had to live with broken workflow, rollback compromises and other things that should not be there with professional software from muti-billion corporation that sees itself as the industry leader. This behaviour has been observed by us users/paying customers long before covid hit the world. I really appreciate company’s reps and community champs here and in the feedback forums and understand that they’re bound by the policies from upper management and my frustration/rant is towards them or whomever makes decisions for LR/ACR. I’m not the one and if they created a proper poll in the app they would know how users feel. But no-one is interested and unfortunately we are not heard so the wheel just keeps turning… There a multiple programs that do things better in almost every department than LR, but unfortunately for me none of them does all of the things in one package, so I am kind of ‘forced’ to keep using LR and rant like this), otherwise I would have been long gone…
Thank you so much for all your help.
Is there a reason why I’m not seeing the update in either the LRC Help menu or the CC app?
Never mind, just showed up.
Sometimes it can take a little while, as mentioned above:
The update servers take a while to push the updates around the world, to avoid overloading the servers.
Glad you got it now though!
Thanks. Much appreciated
Thanks, as always, Victoria.
