Lightroom Classic 10.2 has been released today. As well as some performance improvements, bug fixes and new camera/lens support, the engineering team have spent this release cycle focusing specifically on performance, plus bugs from 10.0 and improved Big Sur compatibility. The entire Lightroom Cloud ecosystem has also been updated.
We will keep this blog updated as any new issues are discovered.
Performance improvements
This release has addressed a number of performance issues that came for a variety of users in 10.0 and 10.1. GPU usage and general performance bugs have been corrected. Our testing has been very positive on the success of the changes, and Adobe have taken longer than usual to correct as many known issues as possible.
As well as the GPU and behind the scenes performance fixes, improvements have also been made in:
- General: speed of checking if folders and photos are available.
- Library: Quick Develop speed improved, also on macOS switching images in Loupe and Compare is improved. Again on macOS Grid scrolling is smoother.
- Develop: Copy, Paste and Sync has been improved.
BETA – Nikon Tether Live View support
The live preview that was added for Canon in 10.0 is now also available for many Nikon cameras. It’s currently a beta feature, and doesn’t yet include the Nikon Z-series.
To use it, enable the Live View button. The Focus buttons allow you to manually adjust the focus by large or small amounts, as long as the camera is set to Auto Focus mode and Live View is enabled.
Super Resolution Import Only
You may have seen our Facebook post about the new Super Resolution feature that was added to Adobe Camera Raw last week. It’s not available in Lightroom yet, but Lightroom can now import the super-res DNG files created by Camera Raw. Full conversion will be added to Lightroom in a future release.

- Slow UI when using Mac and Custom Display Profile

How do I update?
To update, go to Help menu > Updates or click the Update button in the CC app. The update servers take a while to push the updates around the world, to avoid overloading the servers. You can also open the Creative Cloud app, click Update on the left, then click the … icon (top right) and Check for Updates to give it a nudge.

Here’s something that’s new in 10.2. Reverting back to 10.1 makes this issue go away. This bug is specific to Mac users.
https://feedback.photoshop.com/conversations/lightroom-classic/lightroom-classic-loses-connection-with-files-after-folder-is-renamed/606b4850995306385df2af0e?commentId=60a43e94f529971d2cb7a5f1&replyId=60a45a76d2798b5098935a3a
With LrC 10.2, I still get the “Unexpected error opening catalog” that I got in 10.1.1, although 10.1 works fine. I operate a 2017 iMac running Big Sur 11.3. Any suggestions are much appreciated.
Hi Scott
I see you posted this on the Adobe Photoshop Forum, which is a good move. It seems others have experienced the same, your post will likely get merged:
https://feedback.photoshop.com/conversations/lightroom-classic/lightroom-classic-errors-when-trying-to-open-a-catalog/60903921a8e98c342a7aa419
The more occurrences and evidence, the better it helps Adobe sort it. Meantime roll back to 10.1 is a sensible move.
Thank you Paul. They did merge my post to https://feedback.photoshop.com/conversations/lightroom-classic/lightroom-classic-102-message-the-catalog-could-not-be-opened-due-to-an-unexpected-error/6053bbc46a47e07e023ea606?page=2, where an Admin, #Rikk, is moderating.
That thread goes back at least a month. we’ll see where it goes.
That’s good. Rikk is a top Adobe guy, also the thread is marked as ‘Acknowledged’, shows it’s been reproduced (by Adobe) and a solution is underway.
I presume the bugs and crashes associated with MacOS High Sierra have been overcome and there is no reason not to up-date
Not to update what exactly? Lightroom Classic 10.2 has overcome a lot of the issues we saw in 10.x. However, High Sierra isn’t supported with 10.x, Mojave is the oldest OS that is supported.
Thanks
Please add a warning note that grain effect is not rendered properly in Develop mode in 10.2 release. And of course Adobe is rushing to correct it with a hotfix 10.2.1 release as a normal company (raking in bags of money) will do in this situation…. in a parallel universe though.
The issue has been logged and acknowledged by Adobe, here’s the thread to add comments to:

LRC 10.0 on Big Sur 11.0
Having LRC 10.0 currently, I guess this would be a good time to update.
Yeah, it’s looking pretty good. If there were any significant issues, I’d expect to be seeing reports by now, but there’s only minor glitches so far.
Thanks Victoria. I’m wondering when tethering will be introduced for the Canon EOS90D. Is this Canon’s decision or Adobe’s? Or perhaps both?
Have you tried it? I’m wondering if they’ve just forgotten to put it on the list.
Hi Victoria. What’s also new in Lightroom Classic is that you can actually import “Super resolution files” you created in Camera Raw. This wasn’t possible before the upgrade.
// Jani Westman
Oh well spotted, I’ll add that to the main post.
Thank you again for all you do. I hope you realize how important you and Paul are to me and I suspect all of us are. The LRQ in my go-to.
I second that. Awesome resource!
Ditto all the way! LRQ has been my LR rock! Thanks for all your testing, info sharing, and on and on….
Thank you, much appreciated!
Has anybody tested the tethering on a Nikon Z6II? It doesn’t work for me, it works fine with the Z6. LR cannot find the Z6II camera.
The Adobe website is ambiguous: does “MacOS only” mean that only MacOS supports the tethering or that only MacOS users need version 10.2??
https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom-classic/kb/tethered-camera-support.html?mv=affiliate&mv2=red
Tethering for the indicated cameras is available on macOS, but all are encouraged to update to 10.2 (for all the other reasons mentioned in the blog)
This indicates teathering for Canon R1.
does she know something we don’t???
Sorry! My typo. Canon Ra!
what about the extreme lagging of the previous 10 versions ?
Seems to be fixed!
Sorry to see that the new Enhance tool in ACR 13.2 didn’t make it to LR. One big thing included is the new Apple ProRaw profile which is a big deal for those who shoot with the iPhone 12 Pro & Max.
Agreed. Adobe official comment on Enhance:
Super Resolution is now shipping in Camera Raw 13.2 and will be coming soon to Lightroom and Lightroom Classic.
