The much-awaited Lightroom update is now available, bringing back the old Import dialog and fixing the bugs that were introduced in the last update.
Is it safe to update?
So far, a limited number of people have been running and testing 2015.3/6.3. There are always some small bugs – that’s the nature of software development – but there are no known showstoppers.
If any notable issues show in up in the next few days, I’ll update this post, but at this stage, it’s looking good.
Of course, if you can’t afford any downtime or you can’t easily roll back a version, it’s sensible to wait a day or two and let others find any unexpected issues!
Update 48 hours later… the good news is I’m hearing loud sighs of relief all around me… it’s still looking good! Phew!
A week on, it’s still looking good. We’re back to a ‘normal’ level of bugs. Main issues that are coming up:
- A couple of reports of problems installing, fixed by uninstalling and reinstalling 6.0 then 6.3 (Win/Mac).
- A few people getting an ‘error changing modules’ trying to open Slideshow, solution here.
- A few people having issues importing videos, solution here.
- Some memory cards showing in the Files section of the Import dialog instead of the Devices section, so missing the Eject button.
How do I update?
Usually, you can update simply by going to Help menu > Updates or clicking the Update button in the CC app. On this occasion I’d recommend caution, as the update system can be slow to access the latest version and you could accidentally install 2015.2.1 / 6.2.1, which is the buggy release.
Instead, I’d recommend downloading the patch directly from these links (Windows – Mac) and double-clicking to run the patch installer.
The old Import dialog is back and looks identical to 6.1.1.
There’s also new camera support:

thank you kindly for those direct link downloads!
Happy to help John. Avoids a few hiccups!
Victoria, so as of December 10 you would recommend installation of lightrm cc2015 the latest version. 5.3 from adobe? Thanks!
Yes, most things seem fine. Only known issues are those noted above.
Hi Victoria,
Thanks for the news. Just did a system backup (in case I need to roll back ;)) and then updated to 6.3. Looks good so far.
Uli
Great to hear it Uli. I’m not hearing of any notable issues so far.
Lightroom 5 is working well today. Let us hope! The well-mentioned interface issue with Leica/ Nikon, and Apple El Capitan is still a roadblock for some of us.
Should I throw out Appendix 3?
That’s about the new/old Import dialog that no longer exists, so yes, you can do.
…and has it restored tethered operation for Leica and Nikon?
No, sorry. Those are waiting on Leica and Nikon updating their SDK’s (software development kits) that are currently incompatible with El Capitan. It’s not something Adobe controls.
Thanks.
One can dream I suppose…
Good news… Simon Chen’s just posted to say they’re hoping to get Nikon’s update into the next dot release.
I don’t need to be in Lr for another day or two — please keep these comments on any glitches coming in — much appreciated! Kudos to Adobe, too, for listening to us.
I’ll update the post tomorrow, about 24 hours after the release, but so far, I haven’t heard of any new bugs. Some existing ones haven’t been fixed, but this one’s looking good (and I’m breathing a huge sigh of relief!)
Thank you Victoria.
I had an issue where LR wouldn’t import when I wasn’t on line. Do you know if this bug was fixed when they did the major fix?
If it’s the issue I’m thinking of, it’s fixed. There was a problem with 6.2.1 trying to contact the server and getting stuck on certain internet connections, which could certainly show up as problems importing – or doing anything else for that matter – and that should be fixed in this build. Fortunately one of the engineers ended up on a plane and was able to reproduce the issue!
Thanks for that Victoria. Hopefully I won’t be stuck when I’m snapping the footy this week!
I have been running Ver 6.1.1 on a Mac. I downloaded from the link you posted, but it failed, saying “Lightroom CC/6 update – November 2015
Update is not applicable. Error Code: U44M2P28”
Any thoughts? Do I need to be starting from a different version han 6.1.1?
Sounds like there’s some kind of underlying installer problem. If you have a decent internet connection, I’d uninstall, reinstall 6.0 from https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/lightroom-downloads.html and then update to 6.3 directly from there. Hopefully that’ll do the trick. If not, running the CC Cleaner app might help.
Thanks – that worked fine.
Victoria,
is this method still appliccable? I want to update my LR 6.0 (box version, not CC!) to 6.10 and whenever I start the update after about two percent I get the error code U44M2P28. I’m running LR on MacOS Sierra 10.12.5 (Mac book 15″, mid 2010)
Which files do I need to save when uninstalling? Obviously I do not want to loose all my work and settings…
Thanks for your help!
Yes, it still works well (but obviously update to 6.10, not 6.3!). Here’s the list of things to back up, just to be on the safe side, although the uninstall shouldn’t affect any of them: https://www.lightroomqueen.com/backup-lightroom-files/
I was wondering if this version of lightroom now runs in ElCapitan without compromise. I’m still in Yosemite and LR CC 6.1 / PS CC 2015.1
I’m not seeing any issues on El Capitan, other than Nikon/Leica tethering don’t work (which is waiting on Nikon/Leica updating their SDK’s).
What are your thoughts on this. If I’m still running Yosemite because of the tethering issue, can I safely continue to update LRCC and still retain tethering? From what you say, it’s definitely an issue with Leica /Nikon in conjunction with El Capitan, correct? I’m running 2015.1.1 currently. Just don’t want to lose the tethering capability.
Thanks.
Correct, the CC update isn’t the problem. Nikon was using code that’s no longer supported in El Capitan, so the issue is specific to El Capitan.
Nikon tether between Wind 8 and LR CC 2015.1.2 is also broken. The problem is not limited to El Capitan. This has been my experience with the D750 and the D3 cameras. We’ve tested it with different cameras, different USB cables, different ports, on Win8 and El Capitan.
I’ve spoken with Adobe Level 2 and 3 engineers about this issue and they’ve told me the problem is the code in Lightroom CC 2015.1.2. They told me they are well aware of the problem.
Interesting, I haven’t heard any other reports of known issues on Windows. You might like to add your experiences to this thread: http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/cannot_tether_nikon_d600_in_lr_5_4_on_windows_8_1_laptop_works_fine_on_my_win_7_desktop (and if you haven’t already, try the suggestion in the last post)
Thank you for the direct download link. My CC was only showing the 2015.2.1 release and I wasn’t sure if I should install that and then .3 or look for the direct link to .3, so thanks for the answer. I’m downloading as I type here and I’ll be curious to see the effect on the multiple word-keyword issue with Flickr. The problem is that any photo that was published to Flickr with 2015.2.1 cannot be correctly keyworded/published via LR. I rolled back to 2015.1.1 and republished such photos and the keywords remained incorrect. There was no way in 2015.1.1 to fix the keywords that were originally published with 2015.2.1. We will see what this fix does. I uploaded aproximately 1500 photos with 2015.2.1 that I hope this new version can address.
Let me know how you get on with that Flickr issue JM. I don’t use Flickr so I don’t have any test cases to check for myself.
I can report that 2015.3 does NOT fix improperly parsed keywords for photos uploaded to Flickr with 2015.2.1. Adobe doesn’t have any suggestions other than to manually fix the keywords on Flickr, even though the problem is Adobe/LR’s fault. Problem is that I have over 1500 affected photos and there is no easy way to bulk delete a wide range of keywords on Flickr. The other option is to delete the photos from Flickr and publish anew from Lightroom as brand new photos, but that results in the loss of comments, statistics from Flickr. Very frustrated with Adobe right now.
Excellent. I’ll give it a week and upgrade. Hoping to see some of those promised performance upgrades.
It looks like Adobe is still being pig-headed by removing the EJECT after Import function.
Unbelievable really. Why remove functionality that eliminate mundane tasks from your daily routine. Maybe Adobe engineers don’t use Lr themselves to realise how annoying it is to eject cards through Finder dozens of times a day if you’re a working photographer?
It should be back in 6.3 Stefan, along with the rest of the old Import dialog. Are you not seeing it?
I looked for the eject option and did not find it as well. But then I read this: http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/new-update-6-2#reply_16350698
The eject option is only visible when a card is in your card reader.
So all good.
Yep, spot on. I’ve added that and a couple of other known issues to the post above.
Hi Victoria, first thank you for the update. Do you know if we can upgrade directly from 6.1.1 to 6.3 on Windows? Thanks
Yes, that’ll work fine Jacques.
Downloaded LR 6.3 last night (LR found the update when I used the Help – About – Updates menu option). I had a ton of imports to do and the 6.2 import dialog was really slowing things down for me. Happy to say 6.3 update went without a hitch and imports (some of which were huge) worked like a charm. The best part was that I didn’t have to find options to choose the old import dialog, etc, and it looks and works now just like it did before 6.2. Lightroom feels like my old friend again.
Hi Greg, before the update were you using version 6.1.1 or version 6.2? Thank you Jacques
I was using 6.2. The import splash screen for the 6.2 import dialog was taking forever to render (likely because it was exploring all potential sources for imports to present them as import options), slowing my import workflow down considerably. I had no other issues with 6.2.
And I should have also shared that I am on a Windows 7 64-bit system in my original post. Sorry for the omission. Anyway, put me down as very unhappy with the 6.2 import dialog, and very happy with the 6.3 import dialog (which is just like the 6.1 and previous dialog that I knew and loved). I had 17 card imports to do last night and was thrilled to see that the upgrade was available to fix the dialog issue.
Thank you Greg for sharing. I am also on Windows 7 64-bit but I am using version 6.1.1, so I will install the update on next week-end. I am also happy for you that you were able to import all your pictures.
Smooth sailing so far.
I updated from 6.1.1 to 6.3 on a Macbook Pro. When switching to the slideshow module, I get the following error message: “An error occurred when attempting to change modules.” Pressing “play” results in a black screen and selecting music is impossible. Same result when updating from 6.0 to 6.3.
With 6.1.1 working flawlessly, I find it hard to believe it could be a hardware related problem…
That sounds like an installation problem Jos – have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling? If that still doesn’t do the trick, report it at the Official Feature Request/Bug Report Forum at http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family so it can be properly investigated.
The second attempt was a fresh installation (uninstalled, installed 6.0 then updated to 6.3). Guess I’ll stick with 6.1.1 and hope/pray for improvements in 6.4.
Make sure you report it at the link above, so the engineers can go looking for the cause.
I just updated to .3, and it seems to be working.
And, incidentally, here’s a question I have not yet figured out:
How do you use a grad filter only on the middle of the picture (i.e., without extending it to the edge)? Is it a matter of using a second one to offset the first one? Or would using radial do the trick?
Your double grad filter is the best bet.
Thanks for confirming that, Victoria. (Although it still seems like it would be nice to be able to do it in one.)
Oh, but I haven’t gone to El Capitan yet.
Just wondering: since my lens and camera are covered by 2015.1.1 and I like the “old” import, what would be the benefit of updating to 2015.3 ? Is it any faster ? Does it make better use of the graphic processors of the iMac 28″ ?
Thank you for your blog, Victoria !
Is this the retina 27″? There have been some preview generation improvements that make it smoother to scroll on high res screens, so it’s worth a try. You get to keep the “old” import in 2015.3 too.
Well, my wife’s iMac (El Capitan) showed an update from LR 6.2.1 was available so used the application manager to update (214 MB download) to LR 6.3 and message said update was successful. ‘Great’ I thought, started LR and after the initial splash screen confirming 6.3 was loading (why same image as 6.2 & 6.2.1, you changed it at 6 and again 6.1 & 6.2?) got an error pop-up saying ‘error switching modules’? Looking for help online via Adobe shows this error for 2014 versions and earlier. I had to roll-back to 6.2.1 using time machine (remarkably painless) to at least see the expected library images again. Is this yet another bug, have others experienced this. By contrast, updating from LR 6.2.1 to 6.3 on my Win 10 Pro x64 machine worked fine yesterday.
I went back to your site (much appreciated by the way!) and saw your tip about downloading the Mac patch directly (which I did, a 224 MB download), ran the Lightroom-6-3-0-Update patch installer (again it said it was update was successful) so started Lightroom only to see the 6.2.1 splash screen and then 6.2.1 opened – no 6.3 this time (and not showing in Applications or subfolders anywhere). Close but no cigar. So it looks like the iMac is stuck with 6.2.1 until a further update comes along to fix these issues.
Regards
The module switching error sounds a lot like what I experienced, Docd. Here is a link to my tweet with a screen dump: https://twitter.com/josschoenmaker/status/666950706465808384
Odd, that “error switching modules” issue hasn’t been seen in a long time, but I’ve seen a couple of reports in the last couple of days, mainly related to the slideshow module.
For your install problems, I’d guess the Time Machine restore probably confused the installer. I’d uninstall and then reinstall 6.0 then 6.3 and hopefully that’ll do the trick. You’ll find the 6.0 download link at http://clkuk.tradedoubler.com/click?p(265883)a(2791170)g(22913796)url(https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/lightroom-downloads.html)
Can you guys report it at the Official Feature Request/Bug Report Forum at http://clkuk.tradedoubler.com/click?p(265883)a(2791170)g(22913796)url(http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family) so I can flag it up for the engineers please? It doesn’t seem to be a widespread problem, but it’s still massively frustrating for everyone affected.
Thank you Victoria. Because I never throw anything away I did as you suggested: uninstalled LR, re-ran my LR6.0 installer (still lurking in the downloads folder!), re-ran yesterday’s update patch installer and all now tickety-boo! Consequently, I won’t be reporting the fault to Adobe as the fix was very easy and possibly caused somewhere along the contorted 6.0->6.1->6.2->6.2.1->6.3 update route that had previously taken place in the last 6 months. Thanks again!
Thanks for the update DocD.
Hi Victoria, When trying to export to my editor (photoshop CC) I get an error: Could not import the clipboard because an unexpected end-of-file was encountered.” This happens when I try with lightroom adjustments and when trying to edit the original. This only started with the new version of Lightroom. Any suggestions or did you hear about this issue? Thank you so much.
That’s an odd one. Where are the original files stored?
6.3 so far.
1) Import hangs if source location contains any video files
2) Sync folder hangs if source location contains any video files
3) Import module has blank thumbnails sometimes
4) Hangs on quit. On relaunch catalog is ‘damaged’ and needs repair. This happens on every quit.
Yeah, I’d say if you use this in a production environment you are gambling with your job security.
Overall rating 1/10. Would not buy.
All this found after a few minutes usage.
Make sure you report it at the Official Feature Request/Bug Report Forum at http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family Olga. I’ve seen one other report concerning video files, but I don’t remember seeing any others hanging on quit. Do you get the same with a clean catalog?
I don’t feel like donating QA resources to Adobe. If they’re willing to return $75/hour I’ll help them out.
Adobe has already shown where they stand currently wrt resources and product quality.
They are already shipping garbage and ‘helping’ them at this point will just result in even worse products onwards. You can compare it to giving a beer to an alcoholic to help with his morning headache.
The only help I’ll give Adobe for free is to highlight their garbage on the net so there might hopefully be a negative impact on their bottom line. Every sale lost is a win for future quality.
I’m not suggesting you spend hours testing, but if you don’t tell them you’re having a problem that they haven’t experienced in any of their tests, how are they supposed to magically know? I assume you do want it fixed?
Since I haven’t seen any other reports of the your hang-on-quit problem, I’m guessing it may be caused by a problem in your catalog, or corrupted preferences. That would be very quickly and easily verified. But hey, it’s your data that’s at risk.
You didn’t mention which operating system you’re using, but I haven’t experienced any of the video issues you’re seeing either. I have seen a couple of reports on Windows that are under investigation.
FWIW, every sale lost does NOT improve future quality. Quite the opposite, because the resources dedicated to a program are dependant on its sales. Less sales = less staff = less testing…
Very nicely put Victoria.
Just because Adobe is a big company does not mean that it is an “us against them mentality”. I would rather think of Lightroom users as a community where we all work together.
As Gandhi said “Be the change you want to see in the world”
Jim
As in 6.2 in radial and graduated filters “reset brushes” is gonne and missing 🙁
Best regrads
Tytus
How odd! It’s still there if you hold down the Alt (Windows) / Opt (Mac) key, but it’s strange that it’s gone walkabout. I’m trying to find out why.
Apparently it’s because there wasn’t enough space for the button name in other languages, so they’ve hidden it under the Alt/Opt key.
I rolled back lightroom to 6.1 after having major issues with 6.2.1, Consequently on one catalog, i lost all my edits and metadata changes (but the catalog opened just fine). After updating to 6.3 today, bug free and all of my edits/metadata reappeared! Hurray!
I upgraded this morning following your recommendation by downloading the patch directly and it everything seems to be working fine. I went into the SlideShow module and everything works fine and I can say that the preview of one picture seems faster than before.
Just bought a new Macbook Pro with El Capitan (10.11.1) and upgraded to LR 6.3. LR won’t quit! If I click “Quit” nothing happens. I can continue to use LR but the Quit menu item is greyed out. I have to force quit.
Any ideas?
Does this happen every time, or just the once? How did you transfer your data onto the new MacBook Pro? Using the Mac transfer tool, or did you install Lightroom ‘properly’?
Well I have LR 6.1.1 Perpetual for Windows. I am running Windows 10. Have tried to update to 6.3 via the Upgrade within LR and the via download files from Adobe.
Neither way allows the update, stating there is an error in the files. What gives, do you think?
I’d uninstall and then reinstall 6.0 then 6.3 and hopefully that’ll do the trick. You’ll find the 6.0 download link at https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/lightroom-downloads.html
Thanks, Victoria. I decided to not go that route but rather waited 10 days or so and tried the update again from withing LR, Worked fine. Who knows what was different.
Don
How strange! I’m glad it worked though.
I was disappointed to learn that the HSL panel disappeared. Is there any hope that it will return.
I am disappointed to learn that the HSL panel has disappeared. Is there any hope that it will return?
It’s still there. Hasn’t gone anywhere. If yours is missing, go to Window menu > Panels and recheck it.
Hi Victoria
After many years as a MSoft user I’m contemplating switching from Windows to Mac. Looking at the just released iMac with 27 Retina monitor. It has an R9 395 graphics card. I recall reading earlier of LR 6 problems with certain graphics cards. Do you have any insights as to whether LR6 3.0 works ok with this card and also will it actually use this card to aid processing and rendering. I’m currently on LR 5.7 but plan to go straight to 6.3 as a full install on the new Mac. Not bought it yet!
It’s a beautiful machine. I have the 5K iMac and love it. Mine has the M295X 4GB card, which is the previous generation, and yes it helps with Lightroom. It should run great with the 2GB card too, but I bought the 4GB for future-proofing. Because it’s a retina screen, the Develop module’s a little slower to update with the GPU turned off, but works great with it enabled.
Note that you can buy the upgrade from 5.7 by going to https://www.adobe.com/products/catalog/software._sl_id-contentfilter_sl_catalog_sl_software_sl_photoshopcollection.html Click the Buy link next to Lightroom, then it’ll show the pop-ups so you can change Full to Upgrade. Then you can select your current LR version and checkout. If you’re not in the US, change your country in the bottom left corner.
Or there’s a special deal on the Photographer’s Bundle CC subscription here: http://prodesigntools.com/exclusive-photoshop-lightroom-discount.html
Hi Victoria, Your blog is invaluable! Thank you.
I have two questions – the second is related to the post to which I’m replying, but I think I need to ask a preliminary question first.
Will LR6.3 be ‘compatible’ with CS6? In particular will ‘Edit’ — ‘Edit In CS6’ show the LR adjustments LR adjustments show up when an image is ‘Edited-in-CS6’ , will the adjustments show in the Bridge thumbnails?
If the answer to this question is Yes then this is my next question –
I have a MacbookAir 2014, and a Mac Mini, both running Yosemite, and CC with LR5.7.1 . I also have a Windows 7 machine running a bought version of LR4.4 for which I have the box and the serial number. Can I upgrade this LR4 to 5.7? and then upgrade again to 6.3 ? Or is it better to buy 6.3 from scratch?
As I have CC on two machines already, I’m happy to stick with bought version of LR, an CS6 on the Windows machine.
Yes, LR6.3 works fine with CS6. You’ll get a Mismatch dialog, but as long as you press the Render Using Lightroom button, it’ll render the TIFF/PSD file and pass that to PS. If you press Open Anyway, it passes the raw file and the settings, and so CS6 won’t understand the new Dehaze feature and possibly any new lens profiles and cameras too.
If you have LR4, you can upgrade straight to LR6. No need to upgrade to 5.7 in between.
Go to https://www.adobe.com/products/catalog/software._sl_id-contentfilter_sl_catalog_sl_software_sl_photoshopcollection.html Click the Buy link next to Lightroom, then it’ll show the pop-ups so you can change Full to Upgrade. Then you can select your current LR version and checkout. If you’re not in the US, change your country in the bottom left corner.
Thanks Victoria, I’ll follow that up.
Further to my earlier post, any known problems in general with LR on the iMac 27 / 5K monitor. I have read of very small text issues with some applications. Thanks
If you have bad eyesight, it might be a bit small in places, although it doesn’t worry me. If it causes a problem, you can change the resolution of the screen to make it bigger, so it’s not a big deal IMHO.
Victoria,
That’s very encouraging – sounds like I’m going to be in very good company! Will be buying later this week.
One final question if you don’t mind. Apparently very knowledgeable “Colour Specialists” recommend calibration of the Apple monitor (just as they do other models as well). X-Rite and Datacolor seem to be the two most often mentioned supppliers of calibration products, just wondered what you think and what you have found best for your 5K monitor.
Yes, I’m using an X-Rite i1 Display Pro.
Hi
After massive problems with LRCC and El Capitan reverted to LR 1.1 and Yosemite. Is the general view be that it is now be safe to go back to LR2015.3 and El Capitan (read all the blogs on the changes), or wait another week?
Thanks for a fantastic, friendly and very useful site!
General consensus is 2015.3 is pretty safe now – I updated the blog post above with the main issues that are coming up (in italic). I doubt we’ll know more in a week than we know now.
Thanks for the update link Victoria.
Thank heaven we can rely on you.
Hi Victoria
What is the status of an upgrade to the standalone version of LR6? Thanks.
Chuck
Same as above Chuck! Any version numbers starting with 6.x are the standalone version.
Thanks for all your work. I tried to upgrade from Lightroom but it failed. Clicked on the link you provided and everything went ahead. The dehaze facility is missing in my stand alone product and it would seem that Adobe is pushing us to the subscription model by discriminating against us.
PS Bought your book as much as a thank you as a learning tool.
Thanks Patrick. Dehaze being missing is due to legal/accounting regulations. They could have changed their entire accounting procedure to make it legal to add features outside of the first dot release, but that wouldn’t have been economically viable considering the relatively small number of users still on the perpetual license. They’re not trying to be nasty, and they have said from the start that the subscription version would get features between releases that wouldn’t be available for the perpetual license.
Hi I watched this video http://youtu.be/oXvZaf5abfI Are you having the same problems? Steve
Great question. There’s a couple of things at play there Steve.
You certainly want the GPU turned on for a 5K retina iMac. High resolution monitors were the main purpose of building that feature in the first place. It’s slightly slower to load the photos with it enabled, but faster to use once it’s loaded.
The comparison with your 2009 MacBook Pro is understandable, but that lovely new screen is a HUGE factor! Your MBP resolution would have been 1440×900, whereas the iMac is 5120×2880. That’s a maximum of 1,296,000 pixels on the MBP vs 14,745,600 on the iMac. So although the iMac processor is that much faster, it’s potentially having to do 11 times the work.
Further to that, all of Lightroom’s adjustments are non-destructive. Every time you move a slider, it has to recalculate all of the image adjustments. Lightroom’s smart about caching the data with varying levels of adjustments once they’ve been run the first time, but it’s still a lot to do. For a few Basic adjustments, that’s not too bad, but when you start adding complicated calculations like Clarity, Highlights & Shadows, Noise Reduction, Lens Corrections, Dehaze, Spot Removal and other local adjustments, that can start to add up. That’s why you’re seeing such a difference when you apply a complex preset.
Adobe will continue optimising the GPU processing for these super-high-resolution screens, which are still relatively new technology, but it’s about where I’d expect it to be at the moment. If you’re needing speed at any point, try selecting a smaller zoom ratio. The photo on the screen will be smaller, but it’ll be faster because there will be less pixels to process.
I have the latest version of lightroom installed as part of the cc 2015 package. It is running on Windows 10, current version on a PC. Today I went to try to check out the preferences under ‘Edit/Preferences’ and when I clicked it I got the error message: ‘LoadLibrary failed with error 1114: A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed’. When I click the okay in the error message box, LR crashes and quits. It will restart and seem to work okay until I again try to go to the preferences section at which time it does the same thing. The only other things running on my PC were Photoshop CC 2015, File Manager and the Microsoft Edge browser. Any ideas? I have already left a message at your error link above. Thanks in advance.
Jack
I’d uninstall and reinstall. It sounds like something went wrong with the installation.
I uninstalled and reinstalled it twice with no luck. I also found the preferences file and deleted it in case it was corrupted but that was of no avail as well. I am suspecting that it is a compatibility problem with the latest version of Windows 10 and I will just have to use the default preferences until it gets fixed. Thanks.
Jack
Do you have the latest graphics card driver direct from the manufacturer? That would be worth a shot. Beyond that, report it at the Official Feature Request/Bug Report Forum at http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family
It was an issue with the graphics adapter. My laptop has both intel and amd 6700 display adapters. I turned the AMD display adapter off (the properties said that it has the latest driver) and started lightroom and the preferences worked. I went to the performance tab and the ‘enable graphics processor’ was checked with a message that the graphics processor had been disabled due to an error. I unchecked the box, saved and exited lr. I then turned the amd adapter back on and restarted lightroom and the preferences were still working. I reset everything and had the same problem and ended up just unchecking the ‘graphics adapter’ box under preferences and decided I would most likely just have to live with it like that. Thanks for your suggestion.
Last time I checked, AMD had a beta driver that solves the problem. You might want to wait until it goes final, or you could go ahead and install the beta.
After upgrading to ver 6.3, export module is greyed out. How to fix?
Most likely you’ve selected a photo that is offline/missing. Double check that the photo you’re trying to export can be edited in the Develop module.
Hi Vicky, thanks for the 6.3 guidance notes. My copy of 6.12 would not update but read this complete blog and did the uninstall reinstall and I now have a working copy of 6.3. Scary but sucessful !
I notice that some of your ‘readers’ have thoughts/problems with higher res screens, they make the menu text too small to make work comfortable. This seems a problem with several Adobe products and I also had this when I was trialling PShop CS6, it was impossibly small.
A few searches and forums eventually led me to this solution which made PS CS6 good enough to use and so buy.

Hope this helps some of our fellow snappers!
Well done Peter! And thanks for that information.
hi all , using macbook pro with el capitan have uninstalled/reinstalled lr6 (from the links above) but could not install the patch, got this message
Lightroom CC/6 update – November 2015
Installation failed. Error Code: U44M2P7
any ideas pls ?
Hmmmm. Uninstall should have done the trick, but if not, uninstall, then run the CC Cleaner https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html then install again should clear up any gremlins.
thanks the info Victoria, unfortunately no luck with this. I have also tried installing with a root user and same error message
After uninstalling and running the CC Cleaner? Hmmm, there’s something very odd going on, because the CC Cleaner should wipe every trace of previous installs. Best I can suggest in that case is to report it at the Official Feature Request/Bug Report Forum at http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family
Hi Victoria,
El Capitan software on Apple has just updated to version 10.11.2
Is all well in Lightroom 2015.3 as far as being compatible with El Capitan?
Looking good! Just the tethering issue outstanding, waiting on Nikon.
Hi Victoria,
I’m running the most recent version of LR, and have noticed an issue, wonder if you’ve heard talk of it. LR isn’t importing all the images on my CF card. I’ve caught it a few time, only because as I’ve browsed through my images I realize that shots are missing. It’s now happened twice, that I’m aware of, unless I didn’t realize it and have now lost those images. I’m on a Mac running 10.11.1.
Thanks,
Holly
I don’t remember hearing any other reports, but it’s definitely worth reporting it at the Official Feature Request/Bug Report Forum at http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family
Any pattern you can see in the ones that aren’t being imported? Using a card reader or card cable? Could something else be interfering, such as the Photos app?
Can you assist with a link to update to Lightroom 6.3 for a MAC. All the links I have found returns “Server not found” or similar and Adobe seems to have done quite a good job of hiding this.
The one in the post above should work Lars – – I’ve just tried it here and it downloaded ok. Is that the one you’re having issues with?
There could be a routing problem for you access their server. I’ve just dropped it on my dropbox account for you:
Thank you for the reply. Yes, that is the one I am having an issue with and still have.
Thank you very much Victoria. I have now successfully updated; your assistance is much appreciated! I think you are right about the server access so there is some investigation work for me there 🙂
Just upgraded to LR 6.3 However i just noticed that LR6.3 resets all settings after a jpeg image has been opened in photoshop and saved in photoshop. I open a jpeg image in photoshop, take out a blemish, save it, and when im back in LR, my perspective corrections have all be reset. LR 5 did not do this. Any idea if this is a bug or a setting that i can change? Thanks!
When you go to Photoshop, are you choosing Edit Original or Edit a Copy? If it’s Edit Original, it’s a bug. Workaround for the minute is just to click the last History state in the History panel to bring your settings back.
Hi folks, I am disappointed and know as well as you do that Adobe could do this much much better. I am writing this to share solution, that works on various OS and machines (computers). I’ve been testing this for a week also. SO, here it is HOW TO SOLVE #LRimport #LRcrash = #PROBLEM !
LR have general issue with ‘subfolders’ and ‘movie’ in structure but together with that it cramp up memory, not in your computer but cannot read what is going on like it get lost when it reach 2GB floor. So, as result cannot operate but it stack and no flushing memory occur. That is why all this nonsense is going on with software. Shame on you LR beta testers!!!!
Combination of all this will create total confusion. IT IS NOT A PROBLEM WITH YOUR MEMORY, COMPUTER, NETWORK, DRIVERS! – please spear yourself a time to mess with your own settings, ANY software that require that is piece of crap, I cannot call LR ‘for now’ with such a name but getting close to be a candidate, right?
Now, all you have to do is go to folder, select folder you desire to import, and click import. After each and EVERY import you have to do click FILE>OPTIMIZE CATALOG. Then again into import, down path to folder you are importing and again optimize. Yeah, stupid and frustrating but makes this software back in the game if you want to use it. Otherwise, it is just sitting on your computer doing NOTHING!!!!!!
Please share if you have any other solution, but digging on the net i did not find anything else to help me recreate my 85k + catalog of files. ANyway i waste few weeks to reach to this solution. It is going slow now but i made some progress at least and calm myself from being so upset to pull a question of issuing FULL refund + lost from from Adobe!
If you are professional you’ll understand what i mean, I have a client paying me to do a job and there is no way for me to explain hey Adobe messing LR I am a bit out of time frame.
There is also another solution I had to try cost me a double or $300 but it is nice piece of software from “Phase One”, versions for Win and MAC, name is “Capture One Pro”. Works like a charm, and it is more than 200x faster.
So, that is all from me, cheers!
ps. #Adobe please correct mess with LR = we pay for it!
forgot to mentioned important thing. when LR reach some odd limitation of 2GB will stop working, you will know when in import window ‘preview’ of photos stop working. ok, so simply exit from LR, and clean in task manager LR from processes, you will see anywhere from 1,5GB to 2GB depends on OS and system config.
another thing is that as many ppl mentioned already, just reminder… on some systems movie files (*.avi, *.mov, *.mp4) will disturb for some reason LR. so if you just drop your files in RAW to your storage, you’ll have to separate them, otherwise LR will stack on that and do nothing, just keep pretending it is doing something, ok so repeat exit>clean from processes etc.
THIS IS SO STRANGE, WHEN KNOWING THAT ADOBE MAKING PREMIERE & PHOTOSHOP AS LEADERS IN INDUSTRY. SUCH A SHAME!
they should not waste money to ‘grab’ Macromedia, but invest in development all of this specially to make mobile LR iOS app available to manage catalog it is creepy to have what we have as now for iPad. Not to mention other Adobe iOS apps. I have FB & nPlay for doing all my business for much less cost, they have NO competition in what they could do.
I can understand your frustration Tammy, although I’m not clear on why you felt you needed to recreate your catalog. I’m also not certain what 2GB limit you’re referring to, but whatever limit you’re hitting may be related to your system specs rather than being a hard 2GB limit for everyone.
There are some issues with import at the moment, but only a tiny percentage of users are affected so that’s under investigation. The best place to report your findings (and complain, if you wish) is the Official Bug Report forum at http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family The reason it’s the best place is the Lightroom team themselves follow that forum.
Hello Victoria, I have upgraded successfully to LR v6.3. All seems to be working okay but it seems to take forever for RAW files to import. I mainly shoot with Panasonic Lumix GM5. I import them to a Seagate external hard drive. Even as I write this the import has imported 150 images of 780 in the last 30 minutes. Ouch! Any suggestions.
I’d try a couple of tests. I’d try copying the photos to the drive and then importing with the dialog set to ADD to check whether that’s quicker, and I’d try importing photos to the internal drive to see if that works faster too. That should help to narrow down the cause of the problem.
thanks, I’ll give those suggestions a try.
My Lightroom CC just updated and everything looks fine in the Library mode. However, in the Develop mode everything is multicolored and looks like a painting. I have rebooted my machine and looked for any new updates and I don’t see anything. The images look fine in every mode except the Develop mode.
Is there a way to reinstall the latest updates to see/check of something was corrupted during the install?
I figured out the problem. The latest install automatically checked the GPU accelerator and that was the problem. I unchecked the box and the problem went away. 🙂
Check the graphics card manufacturer’s website – they probably have an updated driver (may be in beta, if not live).
Hi Victoria,
I’m on the CC plan. I have been running LR5.7 paid-for, but have recently downloaded LR 6.3 from a Pro-Design Tools direct download link and installed it (Mac OS 10.10) . It realised I am a plan subscriber, and all is well, almost. The version number in Applications is 1014445.
I copied my LR 5.7 catalogue , and the new 6.3 install upgraded the original successfully.
So I now want to update to the very latest version that I think is 6.6 /2015.6 but the CC desktop app says I am up to date, and when I try to install a direct download of the setup.dmg I get an error message saying it is not applicable.
Is this because the 6.3 version I installed was not downloaded via the CC desktop app? What do I do now?
Can you advise please.
Yes, the ProDesignTools link is most likely the problem. To fix, until Lightroom 6.3 (Applications > Adobe Lightroom > Uninstall Adobe Lightroom) and then install it from the CC app instead. You may need to reboot in between. If that continues to have trouble, run the Adobe CC Cleaner between uninstalling/reinstalling to clear out any installer gremlins. https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html
Thanks for your prompt reply. How does uninstalling and reinstalling through CC handle the upgraded catalogue? I don’t want it to overwrite LR 5.
I do appreciate your help, thanks.
It won’t overwrite LR5. As it’s a major upgrade, it installs alongside LR5 and will simply open the upgraded catalog as if nothing changed.
Thanks Victoria, I’ll get on and do that then. Looking forward to the new perspective controls! That’s about the only thing other than cloning that I have to go to Photoshop for.!
