Hi, I’ve just updated to 5.7.1 and cannot see my old photos that were in Lightroom 5, any ideas?
Victoria Bampton says
Most likely you’ve opened the wrong catalog. Try going to File menu > Open Recent and see if there’s another catalog listed. If not, search your computer for files ending in a lrcat extension.

Hi Victoria, Just joined your site. Looks great!! I upgraded to LR 5.7.1 today and I am having issues with importing from the humble iPhone 5s. It worked fine on LR 5, but after the update, there are no preview thumbnails. “Preview not available”. Then LR gets stuck on “Importing…” Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Victoria Bampton says
Nice to meet you Navyo! I can’t reproduce that issue with my iPhone 6. Best I can suggest is to report it at the Official Feature Request/Bug Report Forum at http://clkuk.tradedoubler.com/click?p(265883)a(2791170)g(22913796)url(http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family)

Thanks Victoria! I’ll do my best to figure this out and let you know.

I still haven’t updated my Lightroom. I suppose I need to do this before photography season. 🙂

Always good to get everything updated and stable before things go crazy, for sure!

Hi, I have just purchased a Nikon D7200 but find Lightroom 5 wont recognise its raw files. Any ideas how to resolve this. Your help would be appreciated.
Fernando says
When in doubt, visit the Adobe Community Forums. At the moment there are several running topics/posts on this very same matter.
Also, please remember that makers like Nikon and Canon don’t openly supply details and specifications about the “raw” file formats and software developers, like Adobe, have to reverse engineer it in order to support it. This takes time, and since that camera model was just recently released, it will probably only be supported sometime in April.
To be honest, I really don’t understand why Nikon and Canon (and others) don’t openly release their file specifications to the general public or at the very least to software developers. It would make life so much easier, but unfortunately they don’t.
Victoria Bampton says
Yep, Fernando is spot on. You’ll have to use Nikon’s own software for the moment I’m afraid, or shoot RAW+JPEG so you can use the JPEGs now and edit the raw files in LR once the camera’s supported. Even April’s a long shot, since there’s only just been an ACR update.
Victoria Bampton says
Some people hack the raw file to make LR think it’s a D7100 or other similar supported camera. I can’t endorse that workaround, but if you decide to google and try it, just make sure you keep an unedited copy of the raw file.

Steve, thanks for the warning! I usually use the Creative Cloud App to carry out the updates, but sometimes it does not detect that an update is pending and just says everything is up to date. I was about to use the download update instead, but read your comment in time!
Steve Drake says
You’re probably fine actually – after spending some quality time with adobe’s support staff we were able to determine that the problem I had was most likely some rogue entries in my host file – got rid of them and it works again.
steve drake says
If you are a creative cloud user, don’t use this download update method – it will bork your installation.
Victoria Bampton says
Well spotted Steve, thanks. I’ve updated the post, and a couple of older ones too. It’s not supposed to mess up the CC installation, but can cause it to go into trial mode, which is a pain to get out of again.
Fernando says
Hi! I don’t know if the problem is a localised one or not, but the download links, to the Adobe Update, don’t seem to work. To be more specific, it is actually the redirection done by the JavaScript on the page “http://go.redirectingat.com/?id=…” that is not working.
If I actually use the indented final URL that is in the embedded HTML, then it works. Obviously most people will just click on the link and in that case it seems to be faulty ( I tried on Internet Explorer, FireFox and Google Chrome).
Victoria Bampton says
The links in this post Fernando? Or in the software itself?
Fernando says
Yes, the links on your blog post!
If I disable JavaScript on the Browser then it works because it uses the URL in the “href” attribute of the anchor. If however, JavaScript is enabled, your site then uses a redirection via an external server, namely “go.redirectingat.com” which I believe is a “Skimlinks” service.
However, this may be an ISP filtering issue, because out of three Portuguese ISPs I tested it on, it failed on two of them but worked on the third. It may be that some ISPs do not find “Skimlinks” too savoury and block them out.
PS! How do I logon onto you Blog so that I don’t have to keep filling in the various fields (name, email, etc.) in order to post a comment or reply? I tried the “Member Login” but it does not carry through to the Blog section.
Victoria Bampton says
Ah, interesting! That would explain why I can’t reproduce it here too. I’ll ask Skimlinks about that.
Give me a few more days and you’ll be able to stop typing stuff in. The new Members Area is nearly ready, and it’s synced with Wordpress, so you’ll be able to log in using the new login page and it’ll recognize you on most forms throughout the site.
Fernando says
I’ve done a bit more testing and it seems that it is not an ISP problem but possibly “SkimLinks” or “Amazon” problem/misconfiguration.
The “go.redirectingat.com” is being redirected via an “amazonaws.com” service which does not seem to be responding. Depending on the ISP and location it uses different “Amazon AWS” servers and unfortunately for me, in my case it is being redirected via a “defective” server.
Victoria Bampton says
Thanks for testing so carefully. I’ve passed your comments onto Skimlinks so hopefully they’ll fix it quickly.
