What’s New in Lightroom Classic 15.4, Mobile & Desktop (June 2026)?

Lightroom Classic 15.4, Lightroom Desktop 9.4 and Lightroom Mobile 11.4 have all been released today. There are some exciting feature updates in all versions of Lightroom, along with bug fixes and new lens support.

2026-06-20 – ~~Classic 15.4 is not currently available for download.~~ This is due to the data-loss bug discovered yesterday. The circumstances are very limited: using Photo menu > Delete Rejected Photos while in the new Duplicates view mode causes unrejected photos to be deleted, so if you already have 15.4 installed, just avoid doing that! But Adobe takes any potential data loss very seriously, especially as it affects people’s precious originals, so the release has been temporarily withdrawn while they integrate a fix for this issue.

2026-06-22 – Lightroom Classic 15.4.1 is now available for download. It fixes the data loss bug that occurred if you used Delete Rejected Photos in the new Duplicates view (which was the reason 15.4 download was pulled at the weekend) and also the problem with Denoise.

Important note for Classic: This release upgrades your catalog format, so just be aware that you can’t easily roll back to 15.3. You may decide to hold off updating to 15.4 until more general feedback is received.

Keyword Syncing (Classic & All Desktop/Cloud Clients)

After many years of asking, Adobe has added Keywords to the metadata that syncs to the cloud. This means you can add keywords on your mobile devices and have them sync back to Lightroom Classic, and any keywords entered in Lightroom Classic are searchable in the cloud ecosystem apps (e.g., mobile/web).

Duplicate detection (Classic)

In the past, we’ve recommended plugins like Teekesselchen but now Lightroom has its own built-in duplicate detection tool.

Open Duplicates view using the icon on the Toolbar.

The catalog will need to be indexed on first use. This may take some hours but it runs as a background process that can be paused in the Activity Center.

When the indexing completes, the Duplicates view displays the originals and duplicates as collapsed stacks so you can check through them before deleting.

Assisted Culling (Classic & Desktop)

Assisted Culling is out of early access, and there are a few more small changes to note.

The biggest change is the ability to identify which person has their eyes closed or out of focus. The Assisted Culling Info panel (previously called Culling Scores) is now split into two sections. The Photo section displays the overall scores for the selected photo, and the Faces section displays any recognized faces. If you click on a face, you can see that individual’s scores.

You can also see the scores when floating over the overlays in Detail view.

Interactive Histogram (Desktop)

Lightroom now displays RGB values beneath the histogram. As you move the cursor around the photo, these values update to show the red, green, and blue values for the pixel under the cursor. The values use the traditional 8-bit RGB scale, ranging from 0 to 255.

Also, it’s now interactive, which means that you can adjust the Exposure, Highlights, Shadows, Whites, and Blacks sliders by dragging directly on the applicable section of the histogram.

Masking (All)

There’s a new, improved Select Subject mask AI model that better recognizes edges, especially in difficult situations like these bicycle wheels, and the improvement is incredible!

Quick Actions – Blemishes (iOS, iPadOS & Android)

The Blemish Removal tool in Quick Actions has been updated to include new manual touch-up tools. It’s now a Blemish Removal switch under Retouch > Skin. The buttons to the right take you to the Refine view where you can manually refine the automated retouching if the AI missed any blemishes you’d like to remove, or removed any blemishes that you want to keep.

Map View and Editing (iOS & iPadOS)

It’s now possible to view and edit the location of a photo by dropping a pin on a map. You’ll find it in the Location tab of the Info view on iPhone, or on the main Info panel on iPad.

Custom Color Labels (Desktop)

Have you ever wanted more than 5 color labels? Now you can add up to 5 more! To do so, go to Preferences > Color Labels tab. You can also update the name of each color label, and reassign the 6-9 keyboard shortcuts. Note that color labels still don’t sync to Lightroom Classic or mobile, but they are written to XMP when exporting the photos.

Filter/Smart Collection Updates

There are new Metadata Filters and Smart Collection criteria that make it easy to find photos edited using the AI-based tools. They’re all found under the Develop heading in the filter pop-up.

Topaz AI Sharpening (Desktop)

You can now send photos to a simplified version of Topaz’s AI Image Sharpener. To do so, go to Photo menu (or right-click) > AI Sharpen. You can choose Default or Strong, and choose to Apply Topaz Denoise at the same time. Like the existing Topaz Generative Upscale, it costs Generative Credits, which are shown in the dialog.

Keyboard Shortcuts (iOS & iPadOS)

There are a huge number of new keyboard shortcuts on iOS and iPadOS. We’ve updated our keyboard shortcuts PDF download, and you can also see them in iPadOS 26 by swiping down from the top of the screen to see the menu bar where they can be seen in the drop-downs.

Performance

As usual, there are various performance improvements. Most notably, Denoise on Silicon Macs now uses the Apple Neural Engine, reducing the time it takes to process each photo. In some cases, the speed difference is huge!

On Classic, there are also improvements to Masking brush performance, which should make brush strokes more responsive.

On Desktop, this release’s performance improvements are focused on Versions, HDR, Recommended Presets, and batch editing.

On Android, Adobe lists export performance improvements and better export progress reporting.

Other Changes

Classic
- Background Process Indicator: There’s a new circular arrow icon in the Identity Plate area that appears when Assisted Culling, Auto Save XMP, Address Lookup, Duplicate Detection, or Face Detection is running in the background. It’s purely for information, so you know why Lightroom’s running a bit slower than normal, and you don’t need to do anything with it.
- Edit in Photoshop: In Preferences > External Editing > Edit in Adobe Photoshop 2026, you can now select 16-bit as an HDR image option when sending photos to Photoshop. Previously you could only select 32-bit.
- Yellow AI Update Badge in Grid View: When AI edits need updating, the Develop Edits badge on the Grid and Filmstrip thumbnails now turns yellow.
- The AI Update warning during Export has been updated to include a Show in Library button.
- Canon tethering has been re-written as a native plugin.
Desktop
- Generate Video: You may have already tried the Firefly integration added in the February release, which involved passing a photo to a web browser, where you could use various AI models, then download and import the finished photo or video. In this release, the Generate Video portion of that has been improved, with an integrated dialog. This means that you don’t have to go out to a separate web browser, and the resulting video is automatically added to your Lightroom Library. As before, it does cost Generative Credits.

- Lightroom tab: you can now pinch to change the thumbnail size in Grid view.
- Gallery Grid view: the thumbnails now show the edited version of the photo instead of the original.
- Gallery Grid view: if you hold a finger on a photo in the Gallery Grid view, you can now select and share multiple photos at once without switching to Detail view.

New tether support (Classic only)

Canon Tethering has been rewritten to use the same PTP protocol used by Nikon and Sony. This means there shouldn’t be such a lag in supporting new cameras for tethering, and brings more consistency across the Lightroom tethering tools. However, if you find the old one works better, check Preferences > General tab > Use Canon SDK for Tethering Canon Cameras to revert to the previous method.

How do I update?

To update on the desktop, go to Help menu > Updates or click the Update button in the CC app. The update servers take a while to push the updates around the world to avoid overloading the servers. You can also open the Creative Cloud app, click the … icon (top right), and select Check for Updates to give it a nudge. To update on mobile, visit the App Store (iOS) / Play Store (Android).

Are the books updated?

The eBooks for Adobe Lightroom Classic – The Missing FAQ and Adobe Lightroom – Edit on the Go have been fully updated to include the new features, as have the online versions (available for current Premium Members).
