New bugs…
- Lightroom v.9.2 Export with Previous (CTRL/CMD+E) settings is not working
- Color Well is not displayed for Masking (local) Point Color
- Forces All WebP Files to Open in ACR With No Way to Disable
- Library Filters cannot be enabled / Color Label Option Missing
Operating System Support (iOS/iPadOS)
iOS 18 / iPadOS 18 are now the minimum versions.
Assisted Culling (Classic & Desktop)
The AI model for Subject Selection and Eye Focus has been updated to better handle group portraits.
WebP Import & Export
Lightroom Classic can now import, edit, and sync WebP files. It can also export WebP files to other formats, but not back to WebP.
Send/Share to Firefly (Classic & Desktop)
New Generate using Firefly commands export the active photo and passes it over to Firefly, where you can add a prompt to edit the photo using a variety of AI models. It can be a quick way of editing a photo, especially if you don’t have Photoshop or the needed skills. In Classic you find this under File > Generate using Firefly and in Desktop it’s an option on the Share menu.
Use the Download button at the top of the screen to download it to your computer, and then import it into Lightroom if you want to add it to your catalog / cloud library.

You can also select File menu > Generate using Firefly > Generate Video from Image (Classic) / Share menu > Generate Video (Desktop) where it generates a short video clip based on your photo.
Topaz Gigapixel / Generative Upscale (Desktop)
Being able to access other AI models is all the rage in software at the moment, and in this release, you can now use a simplified version of Topaz’s Generative Upscale model to increase the size of a photo by 2x or 4x.
To do so, go to Photo menu (or right-click) > Generative Upscale. Select Upscale 2x or Upscale 4x and decide whether you would like the photo stacked with the original.

Unlike Topaz’s own app, there are no options to control settings. It costs Generative Credits, which are shown in the dialog, even if you’re not happy with the result.
We haven’t been that impressed with the results, particularly on noisy photos. Super Resolution preserves natural texture better during a 2x upscale, so you can add your own choice of noise reduction and sharpening, whereas Generative Upscale smooths some areas (notice the mother bird’s brown wing) and oversharpens others.

Generative Credits (Desktop)
Most of Lightroom’s tools are included in your subscription and run locally on your computer, but a few of the AI tools run on Adobe’s servers. To share resources fairly among all subscribers, some tools cost “Generative Credits”
At the time of writing, these are the only tools that cost Generative Credits:
- Topaz Gigapixel / Generative Upscale
- Firefly
Your subscription includes a number of credits each month, just like it includes an allotted amount of cloud space. As this is a rapidly evolving area, check Adobe’s website for the latest information: https://www.Lrq.me/gencredits
You can check how many credits you have left this month by visiting your account on Adobe’s website. On the desktop, you can also go to Preferences > Account > Monthly Generative Credits.

Crop (iPhone & Android )
The Crop interface has been updated on iPhone and Android. All of the existing features are still there, but they’ve moved around a bit, and there are new pop-ups for social media aspect ratios. This has also changed the Geometry interface, although the functionality remains the same.

Other Changes
- Desktop
- Batch Rename on Export – The additional file renaming options, including custom filenames, are now available in the Export dialog.
- iOS
- Device Export – this now uses the same Share menu as Lightroom mode, with the Share carousel at the top.
- Android
- Shared Albums – If you tap a link to view someone else’s publicly-shared album in your web browser on iPhone/iPad, then as long as you’re signed in, the album will also appear in the Shared With You album list in the Lightroom mobile app. This makes it easy to find again later. This was added to iOS in the December release.

How do I update?
To update on the desktop, go to Help menu > Updates or click the Update button in the CC app. The update servers take a while to push the updates around the world to avoid overloading the servers. You can also open the Creative Cloud app, click the … icon (top right), and select Check for Updates to give it a nudge. To update on mobile, visit the App Store (iOS) / Play Store (Android).
Are the books updated?
The eBooks for Adobe Lightroom Classic – The Missing FAQ and Adobe Lightroom – Edit on the Go have been fully updated to include the new features, as have the online versions (available for current Premium Members).
The eBooks can be downloaded immediately after purchase. If you already have a current Premium Membership for the relevant eBook, the latest eBooks are available for download in your Members Area.

Are the books updated?
How do I export in WebP in Classic? According to your article ” Lightroom Classic can now import, edit, and sync WebP files. It can also export in WebP format.” However I do not see it as an option. Tahoe 26.2 latest version of LR Classic as of this morning.
Are we looking at the same page? Above, it says “It can also export WebP files to other formats, but not back to WebP.”
Very odd, I copied / pasted that from one of your articles. Now I need to figure out where I saw it. I’ll look around.
Sorry, I meant to reply again and got distracted! I found it on another page and corrected it.
OK thank you. I do hope that is a feature that gets added.
I haven’t been able to find much information about the latest Lightroom Classic release (LrC 15.2.1).
Is this update mainly focused on bug fixes, and does it address the “new bugs” that are listed here?
This fixed some found bugs (not on the reported list shown above).
Ever since V15, switching between photos in the Develop Module on Mac has been significantly slower than it was in V14.
The time it takes me to edit a set of photos has increased by at least two to three times. I have rolled back to V14 to continue using it.
Oh that sounds frustrating! I’ve heard a few reports but nothing like the volume I’d expect if it was affecting a large number of people, so I suspect there’s a specific set of circumstances that lead to it. What’s your Mac’s spec? And where are the catalog and images held?
while it’s nice that adobe is adding support for new cameras like Ricoh GR IV, it should be noted that LrC is not able to properly denoise raws above ISO 160 on GR III and IIIx – do we know if that’s the case for GR IV as well?
At the moment, when you load a raw file from GR III or IIIx, it will denoise just fine IF it is at ISO 160 or lower, however, above that, denoise will make no visible changes to the image, which is a pity, as it works fine below that threshold. This is probably caused by some sort of internal processing done in raw on ISO higher than 160, but it can’t be disabled in settings (and no, it’s not ‘high iso noise reduction’ setting in the camera)
Have you tested that in this release? In the tests I’ve just done (on Ricoh GR IIIx and Ricoh GR IV sample files), that appears to be fixed.
Hi, you have a small mistake in the instructions for the new Generate using Firefly feature in the Classic version. It’s not under the Edit tab, but under the File tab.
Ah, well spotted, thanks – updated.
Hi, Victoria, just for curiosity: Why is it still not possible to export as WebP from LrC? That format is pretty good for web galleries, and it is annoying to export as jpg and convert these files to WebP afterwards with another tool ….
Thanks for the interesting and helpful post (and website),
Michael
Just feature prioritization as ever, I think. There is a workaround though… you could create a Photoshop droplet that does the conversion, and select that in the Post-Processing pop-up in the Export dialog. The principles behind it are in The Geeky Bits chapter of the Classic FAQ book.
Unless I have a contract which does not include Photoshop 🙂
