New bugs…
Classic: “Some masking models are downloading. Please try again later” (Copy/Paste Preset) (Mac)* fixed in 14.3.1 *Classic: Unable to move crop to image edges after negative (CCW) rotation* fixed in 14.3.1 *Classic: Transform [Update] button stops working after application of [Previous]* fixed in 14.3.1 *
Landscape Masking (Classic & Desktop)
A new mask selection tool is introduced for Landscape. It works much like the Select People tool, using AI to read the scene and select specific elements, such as:
- Sky
- Mountains (also selects hills, cliffs, and similar)
- Architecture (man-made elements like buildings)
- Vegetation (trees, bushes)
- Water
- Artificial Ground (man-made cover such as roads, decking)
- Natural Ground (grass, pebbles, dirt)
Like the people mask, only the elements identified will appear in the list.
Transparency Checkerboard (All Apps)
In the Develop and Photo Merge dialogs, transparency now shows as a checkerboard pattern (just like in Photoshop), making it easier to identify transparent areas.
Album Sharing (Desktop & Mobile)
The new Anyone can add photos option allows your viewers to upload their own photos to your album using the web interface. For example, if you’re the designated photographer at a family event, you may invite family members to upload their photos to the shared album so the whole family can enjoy them.
Catalog Recent List (Classic)
Has your File menu > Open Recent list become too long? If you select Manage Catalogs in the same menu, a new dialog allows you to remove catalogs from that list. Don’t worry, the catalogs aren’t deleted from the hard drive.
Preferences Reset (Classic)
Using Preferences > General tab Reset Preferences now also clears the caches found at:
- Windows – C: \Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Lightroom\Caches
- Mac – ~/Library/Caches/Adobe/Lightroom/Cache
As resetting preferences is usually done as a troubleshooting step, this will also clear any issues in the caches.
Quick Actions – Individual People Retouch (iPhone & Android)
You can now select individual people when applying People masks.
Album Sharing – New Contact Picker (Mobile)
When inviting specific people to view your web gallery on mobile, you no longer have to hunt for their email address. There’s a new address book button that accesses your device’s contacts.
Export Border (Android)
When exporting photos on Android, you can now add a border with a custom color, thickness, and aspect ratio. (This is already available on iOS, but as a standalone Add border and share option in the Share menu.)
Other Changes
- Classic
- Tethering – you can now Disable Focus Selection in the Tethered Capture Settings.
- Ecosystem
- If you’ve been using the new Technology Preview features in Camera Raw, such as Generative Expand, you’ll be pleased to know that Lightroom can now import those photos and see the edits, although it still can’t change them yet.
- iOS & Android
- Quick Access to Sharing – The album share button is now prominently placed at the top of the album’s image grid view.
- QR Code Sharing – Easily share albums with larger groups and guests using a QR code.
- Android
- When sharing web galleries, there’s now a preview that updates as you change the settings, such as the background color, layout and headings. (This feature is already available on iOS.)
- iPhone
- New carousel share view in Lightroom library tab which allows selecting additional items to share. Open an image and tap the ‘Share’ button to see the new carousel.

How do I update?
To update on the desktop, go to Help menu > Updates or click the Update button in the CC app. The update servers take a while to push the updates around the world to avoid overloading the servers. You can also open the Creative Cloud app, click the … icon (top right), and select Check for Updates to give it a nudge. To update on mobile, visit the App Store (iOS) / Play Store (Android).
Are the books updated?
The eBooks for Adobe Lightroom Classic – The Missing FAQ and Adobe Lightroom – Edit on the Go have been updated to include the new features.
The eBooks can be downloaded immediately after purchase. If you already have a current Premium Membership for the relevant eBook, the latest eBooks are available for download in your Members Area.

Just updated an old catalog (2018) to new LR and it went through the steps to put the old catalog in a zip file inside a new folder called “Old Lightroom Catalogs”. But I also now see a Wedding-v14-3.lrcat-data file AND and Wedding.lrcat-data file…I am guessing the new “data” file is the 14.3 one – is there any reason I need the latter file?? If yes, should I put it inside the Old Lightroom Catalogs folder to keep it with the old catalog itself?
Make sure to keep the one that matches the catalog name – bearing in mind from v14.0 the catalog name is no longer updated when the catalog is upgraded.
I always move a file if I think it isn’t needed, just to be sure before later deleting it.
Does anyone know how to turn off the checkerboard pattern in the Develop module of Lightroom Classic that shows transparency?
What are you trying to achieve?
I am creating a special backup routine which will back up all preferences and the various presets and plugins…. They are spread across multiple disks and folders. Preferences and StartUp Preferences in one folder on my system drive, various presets in the Adobe/Roaming sub folder folder and lots of presets stored in the same folder as my catalog. There may be others yet to be discovered.
I will post my list of preferences / preset files (and there location) when I have my backup routine operational.
IMHO, all of these should be included in the standard LrC backup routine, especially as the preference files are so flaky.
I also plan to have a warning sent to me if any new log files are encountered.
Apologies… I intended to post this as a reply to any earlier comment.
In Lightroom Classic 14.3, I get the error “There was an unknown error. (1)” when exporting pictures with “Lens Blur” applied.
Hmmmm. Is it working in 14.3.1 that was released yesterday?
After doing some research, I found that this issue occurs across multiple versions. It’s very difficult to reproduce, as it only happens under very specific conditions. See the link below, where an Adobe employee was able to reproduce the problem and has created a support ticket.

Several serious bugs in LR 14.3 that are affecting lots of users:
Mac users, apparently mostly outside the US, are seeing the error “Some masking models are downloading. Please try again later” when they copy/paste/sync settings:

Applying negative crop angles to photos rotated in-camera doesn’t work:

The Transform panel’s Update button doesn’t work when copying transforms ore applying them with a preset:

Thanks, John, we updated the known bugs list at the top of the post.
These three bugs were fixed in the 14.3.1 release last night.
Thanks, Rikk, and the blog has been updated this morning to reflect that.
I updated Lightroom Classic on Mac to 14.3 and the new hyperlink to the landscape masking feature will not open to reveal the Landscape Mask Options. I’ve have reinstalled 14.2 and again installed 14.3, to no avail. Any thoughts? Thanks.
Hmmmm. Is it working in 14.3.1 that was released yesterday?
Hi Victoria. I updated to 14.3.1 and I still cannot use the new Landscape function.
What do you mean by ‘hyperlink’ to the new feature? It’s not a link, it’s an option under the Masking option (as per the screenshots) – this is on classic 14.3, you’re not trying to see it on an iPad?
I notice that with this “new” version, when one has done a “develop” using ie Basic, that afterwards you see a small “red dot” under the Basic sign. When you have used ie the cropping tool, it shows a grey point under the Crop tool, the same happens with all these “tools”. I think that this new “feature” was not mentioned as one of the new features.
Well spotted. That was added in 12.3 in April 2023. A gray dot means that the tool has been used, and a red dot means that some AI needs updating in that tool. On the Basic panel, that red dot likely means you’ve used an Adaptive profile or the Lens Blur tool.
Why are the Pixel 8 pro camera profiles STILL only “preliminary” supported? This was originally implemented 16 months ago and newer Pixels have “full” support.
That’s a good question. I suspect the list just hasn’t been updated.
I haven’t installed the new Lightroom Classic update yet but I’ll be $100 that they still haven’t fixed the problem that causes the two side panes to collapse. This happens when you are trying to click on the slide bar and don’t click precisely in the right place. You should hear me cuss when I do this 4-4 times a day. To me, it’s the most annoying bug in Lightroom and I think it has been going on since Version 1. Why the (expletive) can’t they fix this?
We see your forum post:
https://www.lightroomqueen.com/community/threads/side-panels-keep-collapsing.52686/
We would suggest those that feel similarly, add their vote and voice to the Adobe post that John R Ellis has identified.
Pourquoi un point d’interrogation s’affiche -t-il sur un dossier et un point d’exclamation sur une collection?
Comment réussir à solutionner ce problème?
Merci

As usual No update for iPad users. Waste of time reading it. Only version number change.
Any that say iOS are updated on both iPhone and iPad… and any that say Mobile are all mobile devices (iOS/iPad/Android). Would it help if we called out iPad specifically?
So in this release, iPad got all of the album sharing improvements, as well as the transparency checkerboard and support for the Camera Raw tech preview images.
Good to see things evolve… but still waiting for a Reset Preferences option that protects user entered options.
It is crazy to have to manually do screen dumps of all the settings, reset and then manually check change all the settings.
Computers were invented to avoid such misery, especially when trying to resolve an application issue.
I would also like to see the option to preserves and protect user entered options. I thought that the whole philosophy of Lightroom has always been non-destructive editing. They should extend the same for user settings.
Put it as a request on the Adobe Community, then (link at the top of our Forums page).
But bear in mind the whole point of resetting Preferences is to go back to the system defaults, thus eliminating any possible corruption. We recommend taking a copy of the preferences before clearing so that if it isn’t the cause of the issue, it’s easy to reinstate the user options.
1. I have created and supported such requests in the past… going back a long time … with obviously no result. It needs someone with more influence than me to make this happen.
2. It is utterly crazy to have a user parameter file sharing the same file as a general dumping ground for intermediate work tables, which seems to be available for developers in such a uncontrolled manner that it pollutes itself. This has probably become so embedded in legacy code that all developers are afraid to touch it. As a developer of small apps , I see the need for user parameter files and temp locations for intermediate table working area, but the two functions should not overlap in the same table.
Hi Matt,
Here’s a workaround: When you do the reset, and have used your screen caps to reset prefs to your liking, find and zip the prefs file and put it somewhere safe. Use it to overwrite the prefs instead of doing the reset next time Lightroom starts playing up.
