Updates for Lightroom Classic 13.4 and the Lightroom Ecosystem (desktop 7.4/mobile 9.4) have been released today. This is an interim release, coming just a month after the previous major release. So, these are primarily for bug fixes and new lens support.
Should I update?
If you’ve held off updating from Classic 13.2 due to sync issues or other bugs, then we don’t recommend upgrading to Classic 13.4 at this time, as many of these bugs still remain. We hope they will be fixed in the next update.
If you’re on Classic 13.3 or 13.3.1, or Lightroom Desktop, you may want to update to the new release, as it includes some bug fixes.

How do I update?
To update, go to Help menu > Updates or click the Update button in the CC app. The update servers take a while to push the updates around the world, to avoid overloading the servers. You can also open the Creative Cloud app, click Update on the left, then click the … icon (top right) and Check for Updates to give it a nudge.
Lightroom books
As there were no feature changes this time, the eBooks for Adobe Lightroom Classic – The Missing FAQ and Adobe Lightroom – Edit on the Go did not require updating. eBooks were updated for the May Release. They can be downloaded immediately after purchase. If you already have a current Premium Membership for the relevant eBook, the latest eBooks are available for download in your Members Area.

Upgraded and sync is a disaster. Duplicate Collections (same name but 2 appended) appeared in LrC from mobiles. Hunbg on syncing specific photos. Collections on mobiles started swapping names (eg in LrC Collection A 20 photos, collection B 15 photos but on mobile Collection A 15 photos, collection B 20 photos so name swapped around).
Horrible update and took me hours to just clear down the syncing, remove photos from LrC sync hangs on and re-add them (losing edits), etc.
Can’t really report to Adobe as describing a reproducible sequence is not possible and they’d need my data, etc. and spent an age just getting it working again.
Victoria Bampton says
Sadly, I’m not surprised, which is why we issued the warnings when 13.3 and 13.4 were released. We have been working with Adobe to identify a number of sync bugs, including the collection names getting swapped. I’m hopeful that the next update will have fixed many of the sync issues, but of course, nothing can be sure until it’s released and tested by a much larger audience.

I am finally back to 13.2 and, fully synced and all is wonderful. I didn’t set myself up with a very good roll-back path, so I rebuilt from scratch. It took 5 long days and nights, but it’s over now. Does anyone have an idea when we have a prayer of seeing 13.5? I’d like some of the new features, but not at the expense of useless syncing and horrible performance.
Victoria Bampton says
Historically, releases are usually about 2 months apart. The last few releases have been in December, February, May, and June. Adobe doesn’t preannounce their release dates, but you can take your own guesses.
Alexy says
Horrible problems when upgrading from 13.2 straight to 13.4. Every simple operation slow and sync stuck. I have 700,000+ images in the cloud, user of Lr since Beta in 2007 and of Mobile since inception.
Tried rolling back to 13.3.1, upgrading the 13.2 catalog, same.
After a day up migrating Sync data it was stuck in Initializing Sync.
Two reps got remote access and moused around without resolving anything. Found that 13.4 catalog could not be imported into a new one and I sent it to them to fix.
Rolled back to 13.2, and its catalog, had to redo everything, seems to work again, sync resumed.
For the first time in 17 years bought Photo Mechanic Plus and Capture One as backup, and testing various ways using Amazon Photos and Google Photos as cloud backup that I already have and sharing mechanism. The scare of the terrible upgrade is unbearable.
This is a CrowdStrike scale event in Lr Classic/CC world, folks. Adobe cannot release this kind of syncpolalypse ever again. It puts your whole cloud setup in question. And it took me years to upload and organize it.
Victoria Bampton says
Sorry to hear that Alexy. It’s a story we’ve heard too many times, although I doubt Adobe’s stats will show the full extent of the issues as many advanced users try to fix things themselves, as you did.

The latest Lightroom Classic 13.4 and Lightroom Ecosystem updates offer some useful bug fixes and new lens support. However, if you’ve been holding off from updating due to sync issues, you might want to wait a bit longer, as some bugs still persist. If you’re already on 13.3, the new release could provide some helpful fixes. Excited to see the continued improvements and hoping for more comprehensive updates soon!

As a longtime Lightroom user, I appreciate these updates for Lightroom Classic 13.4 and the Lightroom Ecosystem. The new lens correction support, especially for Apple and Sony, is particularly useful for my photography workflow. The bug fixes for syncing issues and localization errors will significantly improve my efficiency. However, I am concerned about the shortcut conflict for Loupe Overlay > Show on Windows. Adobe, could you please prioritize fixing this in the next release? Overall, this update addresses many problems, and I’m optimistic about future enhancements.
Best Regards

Hi Odi
I know it’s been reported to Adobe, but users adding their weight to the Adobe Community Forum helps (they won’t read the comments here).
markHunter says
13.4 has crippled the performance of LRC in every aspect compared with 13.3.1. Every task takes seconds when it used to be instant and synch is now extremely slow. On a 2019 MacBook Pro with 64Gb memory and 8Gb graphics memory.
Is a roll back to 13.3.1 easy to do?
Paul McFarlane says
Yes – see our blog below that explains why. It’s more difficult going back to 13.2 or previous, due to the catalog upgrade, but to 13.3.1 (or 13.3) it’s simply choosing the version required.
It would be worth posting on the Adobe Community Forums though, so that the cause can be investigated.

Thanks – I’ve worked out that the issue is caused by synching – all is fine unless synching is occurring when everything else slows to crawl.
Victoria Bampton says
We’re hearing quite a number of reports along those lines.

I’m sure I’m the right place? But, I have a very large number xxxxx of photos missing. Can I start over some how and reload photos from external drives?
Paul McFarlane says
flyingpeachgj.2020 no, not the right place. Try our blog:

Thanks for specifically stating your reservations of updating to 13.4 from 13.2 because of sync issues! I fought horribly with that this month and am again stuck without the ability to sync edits from LR Mobile (iPad), but I’m not about to upgrade to 13.4 if the sync issues are not resolved. Any idea how long until the next release will be available and any idea if sync issues will be addressed? Thanks for everything!
Victoria Bampton says
Not everyone’s seeing sync issues, but they’re a real pain if you are affected, so we wanted to give fair warning. Releases are usually every 2 months. 13.3 was a month later than we’d usually expect, but 13.4 was back on the usual schedule. Make of that what you will. I hope the sync issues will be sorted by then or at least massively improved.
Kathy Eyster says
There are a number of bugs listed for the 13.3.1 release on your blog post that don’t appear as resolved in this post. I’m especially interested in the issues with metadata not updating to files correctly. Do you know anything about the status of the earlier bug fixes as they relate to 13.4? Thanks.
Paul McFarlane says
Hi Kathy
If you mean the one where metadata isn’t always setting metadata up-to-date when you save Metadata to files, or the one causing sync issues, then no, they aren’t fixed in this release.
