One of the most frequently asked questions, particularly in the month or so before a new dot release, is ‘why doesn’t Lightroom support my camera?’
Jeff Tranberry has written a great blog post, compiling all of the information for situations such as a brand new camera model which isn’t supported yet, or an older version of Lightroom/ACR which doesn’t support your newer camera. He offers solutions, instructions for some workarounds, such as using the DNG format, and also the reasons behind new camera support not being added to older Lightroom and Photoshop versions.
Of course, if camera manufacturer’s all natively supported DNG, or another format of their choice, none of this would be an issue! Some camera manufacturer’s – Casio, Hasselblad, Leica, Pentax, Ricoh and Samsung – already create DNG format files themselves, so their new users can start processing their raw files immediately. Maybe one day… we can dream!
