Our favourite Lightroom Forums has been down for a couple of days for a major software upgrade, but it’s back with bells on.
There’s a few teething problems being worked out with the new software, so don’t panic if things aren’t quite where you left them! 😉
If you’re not already a member, feel free to drop by and pull up a chair – it’s a friendly place to hang out and chat about all things Lightroom.
Can’t log in to LR forums. Wazzup with that?
Also, tried to download the LR 3 trial and it says it needs an intel based machine. Wazzup with that also?
[LRF looks like a problem with the server – hopefully will be up again shortly.
And yes, LR3 minimum requirements have increased in line with Apple’s – it’s now Intel only. – VB]
i have Lightroom 3.4 (I think) and had my computer HD fail. I only had my LR program on my faild HD (PC) and have new computer with LR 3.4 updated to 3.6 installed. My Catalog and my Photos were on my external HD and are fine. My question is how to I access the old catalog and the photos and bring the Catalog into the new computer with its presets and settings as before? Is this possible and how is it done. I am semi literate with computers. I have Victoria’s book but can’t seem to find the answers I seek.
Thanks for any help.

Hi Gary. Have a look on page 232 and you’ll find the instructions you need. If you’re keeping the catalog & photos on the external drive still, you just need to find the catalog and double click to open it. If the drive letter’s changed, you might need to ‘find missing photos’ but then you should be up and running. As far as the presets & settings go, do you have a backup of them from the old computer? If so, you just need to put them in the same place on the new computer.
May I see advice? I have Lr 6.14, perpetual and all is well. Some time ago, with a new camera came Lr CC free for 3months. I did not take up a subscription and it was then supposed to revert to Lightroom 6. Both version have remained on my hard drive. A short time ago, I received a notice from Adobe that an update was available and I installed it. I have opened that CC version now described as Classic CC. The opening screen shows lightening flash with the words ” Lr 6 – version 7.3.1″. When I open that version it seems to be using most of the catalogue from my other version. However there are differences when I open a picture. E.g Basic shows dehaze and clarity but no vibrance or saturation and In HSL the colour adjustments are greyed out. I don’t want to use the Classic CC version and intend to delete it completely. My concern is whether it will affect in anyway the catalogue I have with 6.14. Is it safe for me just to remove what appears to be a corrupt version? If I am not entitled to seek help in this way, please do not hesitate to say so,
Hi Baron, removing Lightroom Classic will be fine if you’re still using your 6.14 catalog. You’d only come unstuck if you’d upgraded your catalog to Lightroom Classic format.
