You’ll note in the book that I particularly like the Contour ShuttlePro v2 (known as the Multimedia Controller Pro v2 in the UK) for a speedy Develop workflow.
With a mouse or pen in one hand you can float over the Develop sliders and turn the dials on the Shuttle to easily adjust the slider position. With practise you can make large or fine adjustments much more easily than the slider alone. I reviewed it in a little more detail here.
You can set the Shuttle up in any way you like, but here’s my preferred setup:
