The G5 Mac I was using for culling and initial edits died before Christmas. After sending out for repairs it was determined that the HD as OK, but the motherboard was fried. So for the time being, I've plugged the HD into a drive caddy and use it as an external drive from my G4 laptop. All the usual files are in place, and I back up LR the first time it opens every day, so assumed all would be good if bad things happened. Not so.
Normal operation for me is to back up RAW files immediately to a (different) external drive first thing. Then I load into LR, allowing LR to copy and move the files to the Mac's "Pictures" folder. Once double checked for proper move, I discard the files from the desktop. As I write, all the images are physically present in "Pictures"
However. Now that I'm using the former main HD as an external, I cannot seem to access the catalog for that computer anymore. For example, the laptop wasn't used as often prior to this, so had LR 2.5 installed. The desktop Mac had LR 2.6. If I physically navigate to the Desktop Mac drive, then to Applications > LR, I can access v2.6 there and run it. BUT - when I open the catalogs, only the tiny catalog labeled Laptop appears, and despite everything I try, I get none of the images I think I should, and if I import, I get none of the edit info.
This is a major problem, as you can imagine.
Currently the laptop's internal HD is labeled the usual default Macintosh HD. The old desktop drive being used as an external goes by the same name. Is that creating the issue (i.e. confusion), and if renaming is required, which drive should be renamed so everything else continues to operate properly?
Help in finding the sidecar information I thought was so thoroughly backed up will also be appreciated.
