.xmp files are not showing up in new computer

I recently made the jump from a windows vista machine with Lightroom 3 to a new quadcore 8gb iMac. I exported my lightroom catalog to a hard drive and imported to lightroom on the Mac. All of my origionals (canon CR2's) showed up but not the .xmp files that were associated with them. If I do a search of the folder separately on the mac's browser the will show up; but not under normal browsing of the file. There is about 15'' photos total. Could it be something about the file structure? Any help would be appreciated!

Hi Dan, welcome to the forum!

So let's just make sure we understand what you've done so far....

When you say you import to Lightroom on the Mac, did you just import the photos, or open the exported catalog?
