In my. catalog settings I have checked save sidecar - XMP files. I noticed that they are no longer being saved when I make edits. I only upgraded to 13.5.1 within the last month over concern about synching issues. Have I discovered a new issue? my work-around is to select all the imports and at the end of a session of editing select the files I have been editing.. right click, Metadata>and save. This works but is error prone as images in other folders or collections may be missed.

Any Suggestion on how to get Adobe LrC to automatically save the sidecar file?

Made me look.

Mine still writing changes as before. BUT, I did learn that DNG's, like from Denoise, have no xmp files. Did not know that.

XMP Sidecar files are for proprietary RAW file types. Published formats like DNG, JPEG, TIFF have a provision for the XMP section included in the File header so the XMP is included inside the file itself.

There are many reports in the Adobe forum about serious bugs with LR 13's detection of changes to metadata and saving changes back to disk. Adobe has acknowledged one bug report:

You can use the Library Filter bar's Metadata browser to find all photos that LR thinks need their metadata to be saved:

However, given all the reports of problems, I don't think the Metadata Status indicator is entirely trustworthy.

This is a good time to triple-check that your catalog backup strategy is adequate and actually working:

So I guess now we have to wonder if DNGs are being updated internally as well?

Thanks for confirming it’s not just a me thing and that some day I can expect that Adobe will get it straightened out, hopefully sooner rather than later.
My catalog backup is in good shape with both on site and off site versions.

Good question, I haven't investigated or seen any reports either way.

Let's hope so. Saving metadata worked reliably for most users for many, many years, up until some version in LR 13.
