WOW!! Catalog Preview folder is huge!!

Doing some disk maintenance and checked the size of the Catalog Preview folder... 4 Gig!!

I do import with 1:1 Previews, and shoot RAW, but I have LR set to purge 1:1 Previews after 3' days..

Is this folder size typical? Anything I should do to control it?

Probably the easiest way is to have LR purge the 1:1s sooner. The 1:1s help to cut down to amount of time LR needs to display the image at full resolution. In my workflow, they are most useful immediately after import when I'm trying to decide which shots to keep and which to delete. One day after import, they go away.

How many files in your catalog? 1:1 previews are full resolution, so they do mount up pretty quickly.

At this point, under 5''' images. I have all of 2''7's images and a few from years prior.. I'm wondering if there is a better workflow than having 1:1's generated during the import.

Let me ask this.. Let's suppose I import 1'' images with 1:1's generated at import. After my first cull I have 8' images left, and the 2' rejects are deleted from the HD. Are the 1:1's that were generated for the 2' rejected images deleted at the time I delete the rejects or do previews stay in LR until they are either dumped per the 3' day limit I have set, or if I dump manually?

Maybe I should do the import without 1:1's, cull down to the 8', and then generate 1:1's?

Second question..is there any way to determine if a particular image still has a 1:1 preview associated with it?

This would be great. I have just discovered the problem with not having 1:1 previews generated when running a slide show, and found it difficult in either library or develop to know which images were not generated.
