Working the same images on PC and MAC

Hi all, I am new to the site as well as a Lightroom user. So please excuse me if this subject has already been discussed.
Recently I get a MAC and I processed some photos in Lightroom. The point is that I can't transfer the processed images to my PC Lightroom version to continue the processing, printing etc although I copied the appropriate files (catalogue and previews). What is the right procedure?

You can not process images (Develop Module) with only the Catalog and previews as the catalog contain no images. When you import images in Lightroom, they do not go into Lightroom at all; they are just referenced by Lightroom.

So, where are your original images? Lightroom do need the reference to them and it will do so by a drive letter in Windows but a drive's name on the Mac. Thus, each time you switch systems, you will have to relink your missing folders.

To avoid having to do so for many folders, it is best if you have all of them under only one top level folder.

Of course there are the same images on both computers but my problem was to reload the images on the PC using the setings from the MAC.
Lastly, I tried to work with both the images and the lr.catalog in an external drive and it works.

Wes. It is the easiest way if you switch frequently.

This is what I was doing for awhile till my Mac jacked up my catalog not once but twice!

The best thing to do is to have you images on a drive that's accessible to both systems. I have all my drives formatted to NTFS as Windows 7 is my primary system, and I use NTFS-3G on the Mac to access it without issue. I was using a single USB drive but after nearly losing every photo ever taken, I moved everything to a mirrored raid external drive.

The point is you can go back in forth between the OSs which is why I love LR, you just have to make sure you have a copy of the catalog and you might need to relink the media which is easy.

I would also recommend converting your raw files to DNG as well to be sure you're carrying all the changes around without issue.

Thank you all for the considerations.

I couldn't try anything else yet due to lack of time. Actually, my problem solved partially making tests with my usb stick. I tried the same with my usb passport drive and didn't worked because MAC could only see it as "read only".

I'll try your solutions and I will come back.
