Why Export?

I'm wondering why I would use export other than when I want jpegs or web images.

If I'm understanding everything correctly, I import my RAW files, I can then make adjustments, etc and if I want to I can choose Photo>Edit in PS, do my edits and when I save it PS it creates a new file on my drive and imports that to my catalog. If that's the case is there any reason to export other than the reasons I first listed?

I think you have summed it up properly. I only export from Lightroom in the situations you mentioned.

Thanks. I want to make sure that I'm not clogging my hard drive up with unnecessary duplicates.

That really is one of the big pluses for LR, no need for unnecessary duplicates, Export what you need after use delete them as they can just be created at any time.
