Where does iPhoto store my pictures?

Strange question in a Lightroom forum, eh......?

But this is my problem:
I use LR to process all my RAW-files and I also save a jpg-copy of them in folders - the way I like it.
Now - I have started using iWeb ´'9 and I´d like to use it´s album feature as easy and powerful as possible.
I have found out that the best way to do that is to create an album in iPhoto - drag my photos into that album and then transfer the album to iWeb.
I have tried it and it works fine. The changes I make to the iPhoto album is almost immediately shown in iWeb - just the way I want it.

But my question is: does this mean that I will have to copies of my pictures, my own and iPhoto´s?
Or does iPhone only refer to my folders without creating copies?


I would be very happy if some Mac user here (and there are a lots of them!) could clear this out for me, thanks!

I solved it myself!

There is an option in Preferences>Advanced to copy or link. Thumbnails and changes, however, remain in Pictures>iPhoto Library.
The default is copy to iPhoto.

Another option: you could just keep the original in LR, with the processing recipes applied then export them as batches when needed. That's what I do and then there is no need to save the jpgs long term. When I am putting together an iPhoto album for printing, I do all my edits in LR and then export full res. jpgs to a folder and then import that folder into iPhoto (leaving them in their current place). That way, iPhoto won't create any additional files. When I'm done and have uploaded the album for printing, I can delete the jpgs. I do something similar for uploading to the web, or sending to people etc -- sometimes changing the export options from LR to fit the intended use. Works pretty well and takes up less space, plus no craziness trying to keep the "derivative" files straight from the original RAWs.
