Where do Collections reside?

I use collections all the time on my desktop with LR. I have copied all my folders to a external hard drive so I can work on photos on my laptop. However, I noticed that although LR picks up all the folders on the external hard drive the Collections are not there. Is there a way to copy them to my external hard so I can them on my laptop?

Collections reside in the catalog only. To make use of them as you describe you would need to select what you wish to use and export as a catalog.

If you've transferred all of the photos, it's probably worth transferring the whole catalog too. You can put it on the external and work on it on there.
