I just upgraded to Lightroom 2 from Lightroom 1.3. The problem is, my pictures in the library was lost in the recent version.

I remember that on the last command during the upgrade, there was a choice if I want to upgrade the catalog or to create a new catalog in Lightroom 2. Unfortunately, I chose the first one.........and my pictures was lost.

HELP! how can i retrieve my edited pictures in lightroom 1.3

Welcome, first some house keeping. To help us help you could you please take a moment to fill in your signature with information similar to what I have, in the "userCP' that is found at the top left of the page - thanks.

Now to your problem. You did back up your catalog first ??
If you did go and make another copy to work with, double click that - the .lrcat file and you can go from there.
However there have been (and it happened to me) cases where LR created a new (empty) catalog after opening. You will need to find the catalog that was upgraded (it will have made a copy) - it will have "-2" in the name. It is probably in your pictures folder. Look there and you can open it from there if you find it.
Report back with what you turn up.

Thanks Denis And Geoff.

Denis,
I watched the tutorial and it looks like, its teaching where are the original pictures in your computer and not in Lightroom program itself. My problem is, the folders of pictures in Lightroom 1.3 was lost when I upgraded to Lightroom 2. But, big thanks to your link, I bookmark that site.

Geoff,
To be honest, I dont know where to edit in userCP. Do you mean, i should place the location where I am at? When I click the edit signature, what should i edit? Sorry, i cant get it as Im new into forums and not so good in computer.
Back to my problem, yes sometimes i back-up, sometimes not. I went to my pictures, then go to lightroom folder then i cannot open the lrcat, lrcat.lock, lrcat.journal. No pictures are coming up. Also I didn't see L2 folder and i think i dont have coz i click upgrade the catalog 1.3 instead of creating a new catalog for L2.

Thanks Denis And Geoff.

Ok, we'll deal with the major problem - your catalog!
Make sure LR is closed !!
Then go back to that folder with the catalog. Remove to the desktop the .lrcat.lock and .lrcat.journal files
Then try double clicking the .lrcat file

Geoff, deleting the .lock and .journal, i was able to open the Lightroom Catalog, giving me a new window either to upgrade or create a new one. It starts upgrading but it always stop and says cannot upgrade coz the files had been damaged.

Don't panic or do anything except make copies of the files that were in the folder originally. The .lrcat along with the .lock and .journal files and place them in a safe place. There is an engineer at Adobe who may be able to help, he has for most people.
I have sent him an email.

OK, we'll both wait !!:lol:

Thanks Geoff, I'll wait for his reply.

Now the instructions are:
Package up your last unopened copy of the 1.x catalog (the one that you should have made a copy of and tucked away safely) along with the .lock and journal files.
Send the whole lot to Dan Tull at Adobe. On second thoughts, how big is the package? If it is too large to email you can zip it. If still too large email Dan first for instructions for uploading.
His email is:
dtullatadobedotcom

Hope this gets resolved ok!!

Goeff, thanks! As i understand from your instructions, i need to make a folder containing the .lock, .journal and the unopened copy of the 1.X catalog then email it as an attachment to Dan. Is this right?

What is the "unopened copy"? where is this located? Is it the Lightroom catalog Previews.lrdata that is inside the folder of Lightroom in "My Pictures"?

Did you make copies to start with? You need to send the .lrcat, .lock, .journal but not the previews. By unopened I mean the last catalog that you haven't opened - this would hopefully be the original or the copy of that, that was made !!
Let me know how big the folder is (with the three files) and when it is zipped.

Lightroom Catalog = 154 MB
.lock = 74 bytes
.journal = 5.'' MB

I think you would want to zip that catalog file but send Dan an email and ask him how to get it to him.

Geoff, just to let you know that the problem was solved. Thanks for giving me Dan Tull's email. He was so accommodating and always replies every time I send him an email.

Again, thanks again Geoff and Dan.
