Can someone explain this?

Today, I started up Lightroom, went to some photos I had taken and edited yesterday, and the History of my edits was gone. The only item in the history was "Import". These are all .nef files. JPGs don't seem to be affected.

Other .nef photos seem to have the history intact, but it doesn't recognize the backslash key in Develop module which should toggle between the most recent edit and the photo as imported. In fact, the top item on these photos says "From Metadata".

Other .nef photos are fine.

Did I screw up somehow? Did Lightroom screw up? How do I fix this? I can restore from a backup from Sunday if necessary.

Thanks.

If the top item says 'From Metadata', that means you've done a 'Read Metadata from Files' on those files, which also changes the 'before' view to that step too.
