What doesn't get written out of LRCAT

I've been surfing around and still can't get a handle on what (if anything)doesn't get written to XMP or DNG from the catalog. Does all of the edit data get written out? If LRCAT dies for some reason does an import of the directory recreate everything if DNG or XMP files are present and synch'd prior to the crash?

Is there a document somewhere that describes this?

I don't know if there is a document somewhere that describes everything, but the answer is clearly: "No, not everything in the catalog gets written to .xmp".

Some things that are not written: color labels, flags, stacks, virtual copies*, collection membership, sequence of edits (the final position is written to the file but not the sequence). Therefore, re-importing is not a good idea, as information will be lost.

If you are worried about the catalog becoming corrupted, the best defense (and in my opinion, only defense) is to make regular backups of the catalog file.

* -- virtual copies could be written to the file if you save it as a snapshot

Thanks for the info. We do daily backups of the catalog and library of images.

Adding to Paige's list... Develop module panel switches, image pan positions, and custom sort orders are not stored in the XMP either. I think between the two of us, you probably have the full list.
