Hi,

I am wondering if anyone has encountered this or has a solution. I size up my images, specify the length in inches, width and length, and then save as high quality JPEG and send to my printing lab.

But on a number of occasions the lab has called and mentioned that the size I've specified (in my upload to them) isn't the same as the saved dimensions.

For instance, I recently ran off a number of JPEGs and a few were significantly out; one that I set as 4'x3' inches in Lightroom was actually (according to the lab) 4'x26.5 inches.

Another I saved as 3'x24 inches was 3'x23.

While the images aren't distorted and appear in proportion, I am stumped as to why this is happening? As for the lab, they are one of Sydney's better professional labs and I've only heard good things about them, so I don't think it's an issue with them.

Many thanks,

Adrian

I would take a guess that your original image is not a 4x3 aspect ratio and so fits inside 4' x 3' but doesn't fill it. If that makes sense.

That's a 3:2 ratio and personally I find that ratio more pleasing to the eye than 4:3. Either leave room to crop or set the matting to be the ratio the vendor wants and fit your image within it at it's present ratio.

Just in case the previous replies haven't clicked for you -- a 4'x3' rectangle is not the same shape as your 36x24 mm sensor. The 4'x3' (4:3 ratio) is more square than the 36x24 (3:2 ratio).
