There is something i would like to acieve in use of web module of LR2.2 and i am not shure if possible or if it really works...
so, i use web module to update various sections of my website with periodic small galleries.
Sometimes i just use LR web galleries directly, allowing LR to resize, sharpen, watermark etc...my pictures. Lack of time and not need for great quality, is a fast procedure...

here is a problem as several galleries use to produce several dimensions for each picture, large/medium/small...i do not really like lack of options for this setting because uploading gallery on the website takes longer, more server space is used and so on...
fortunatelly i have found several tweaked gallery engines that only export one specified dimension to gallery folders..

well, the real problem i do not really know how to solve and if possible to solve is this...
many times i prefer to process in Photoshop until i get the final product...

i work on the pictures, i resize, apply sharpen filters, frame and watermark everything so i really have the quality final product for web... saving for web procedure in order to optimize quality/speed included...

what i really do not know is hoq may i use web module in order to generate a gallery with the actual "finished" pictures i previously processed...
i really do not like allowing LR to mess with what i have done and "ruin" everithing by recompressing jpegs, etc...

so, the question is if that is possible and if yes, which gallery engines/galleries offer such possibility???

Thank you very much for your suport ;)

Lightroom won't generate an image larger than the one you use in the gallery. So make your images, then import them into Lightroom. Select an image size larger than the longest dimension and see how you get on. Alternatively, set the correct size and then overwrite the generated images with the ones you want.

Thanks for the input, Sean.

first, i was not talking about the fact that lightroom enlarge native small images.
the presumed loose in quality is re-exporting an imported jpeg, recompression, etc...

something like opening a jpeg in Ps and save it as jpeg without any modification...that simple "export" process i presume translate in loss of quality...
i "presume" so after i did a simple test...open and image in PS, save it with a certain quality compression setting...then opened that copy again and resave it with the same compression settings...repeat this process several times and compare let's say copy no.1' with copy no.2, the first save in Ps...

there is a diference in quality...that mean for me those "export" unnecessary processes produce alteration of image quality.

this thing i want to avoid using lightroom and it's web gallery module..since i spend time to obtain a good product in PS, i do not want to waste anything of it by Lr export into gallery process.

thanks for your idea of replacing "generated" jpegs into the gallery with original imported jpegs i exported from PS...i was thinking about the same thing, in fact this was what i was testing right now:cheesy:

i will be back with feedback and further possible details.

as a sugestion if u allow, maybe u will consider such option (use the native imported files without exporting into gallery folder, just copy them) for your future tweak work in LR web module engines and/or templates (allthough i suppose is a matter of engine itself not simple template..)

i will tr myself to create such option, though i just became interested by this theme and allthough i have a programmer background i am not familiar with web related apps so i eed to deeper lear and understand how things work.
ill also keep you guys updated on this too, maybe there are others interested so i'll be glad to be helfull if possible.

thanks for your input again ;)

Save your Photoshop edits as TIF files -- no further loss of quality will occur -- and then import the TIFs into LR to generate your web galleriers. There will be a minimum quality hit when LR makes them into new JPGs, but very minor and likely will make not a wit of difference in a web-res image.

Thanks for sugestion, this alternative is new, good idea...;)
still, allthough loss in quality should not be a problem, another one occurs, optimization ;) dimension of the files is still up to lightroom and not as precise defined as using PS save for web method.

Anyway, i verified the replacing method and it appear to work fine ,using the same filenames.

overall, both methods u guys mentioned worth deeper research in order to find a sweetspot, simplicity, economy of space and bandwidth, time tranfer, image quality...

BTW, i reverified how much quality is affected by the repeated saving/export of jpegs....sometimes, when colorich and fine gradients are in question, there is a reason to be carefull..most of the times though repeated exports do not present a problem for web use...

i'll keep up with updates if i conclude something new/different.

thanks again.
