Web gallery, maximum image size and orientation

In producing web galleries for my web site, I have assumed a laptop display such as my 13" MacBook as a lowest common denominator (128' x 8''), and am therefore using a long dimension of 6'' pixels for verticals. However, in choosing to generate HTML galleries, we have only the "Size" option slider at our disposal, and so at that scale, landscape-oriented images are also unfortunately constrained to 4'' x 6'' pixels when the available screen area would in fact permit 6'' x 9''.

Today I was studying Victoria's very helpful post about the subtlety of dimensional options when Exporting files (see the entry for Nov. 16, 2''7):

I was especially interested to see that it is possible to choose one group of settings that generates different maximum image sizes according to image orientation.

My question then, is whether there is a way to mimic this additional control in the Web module. Effectively, I would like to specify a max image height of 6'', but a maximum image width of 9'' pixels. Would it be possible to generate the basic gallery, and then export a second group of larger landscape images to the Desktop, which could finally be uploaded to the web site with an FTP client such as Transmit as larger, selective replacements ?

Not that i am aware of. I do agree that this is a much needed feature for the web module. the only way this can sort of me accomplished is if you use a flash gallery and its coded to resize the images based on image orientation.

I've been playing with TTG's Monoslideshow for the last few days, and that'll do a 'Fit' to a bounding box, but like Joe, I'm not aware of anything like that for the HTML galleries. It would be a useful feature though - put in a request! http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform

My galleries offer individual sizing controls for width and height. The controls are not orientation-smart, however. You can set each individually, and the images will stop when then run up against one dimension or the other.

For example, if you set the width to 9''px and the height to 2''px, your image will stop growing when you hit the height 2''px mark.

But with dimensions somewhat closer together, I think it will work out for you just fine. I believe width 9''px, height 6''px should work nicely.
