I'd like to see a variation on the watermarking tool introduced in the Lightroom 3 Beta.
It would be very useful to me to allow you to place the watermark beneath the image. I realise that this is not the point of a watermark hence the use of the word variation. More precisely I'd like to create a Dgital Slide Mount. As in http://www.digitalphotographystandards.com/pages/slidemount.html
The information in there would be able to be taken from the IPTC XML metadata using tokens as in http://www.controlledvocabulary.com/imagedatabases/filename2title.html (search for the term token). I personally would like to annotate the copyright holder / by-line, the original image title or filename, some location info, the caption the usage terms and some contact information, plus a boilerplate sentence requesting that the border not be removed for supply to clients.

Can't you do this through the print module? Create the watermark to fill the complete page and place a single image box for the actual image.

Yeah, print module could work for that, or I'd probably use the LR2/Mogrify plugin to get that result - it's a bit more techie to set up, but very flexible.

Not that convinced that the print module is much chop for this purpose. Obviously it's driven by paper size. I can't seem to find a way to restrict it to the native image size. Also the token use is limited to 3 IPTC items. LR2/Mogrify still seems the best solution for now. Request still stands tall and proud!! Thanks for your input.

Sorry bout that, an oversight on my part. I've corrected my profile info now. Mac OS X 1'.5.latest.
I can specify an arbitrary print output size too but i couldn't be sure that the image has remained unresized, even if it's only a pixel or two either way in height or width. I'll leave the print module alone for this purpose as it doesn't seem to qualify for 'workflow' status. Printing is something that i so rarely do that I just go from photoshop after I've scoured every pixel and retouched every little flaw. LR2/mogrify still fits the bill closest, but I'd still like to see a more integrated approach, something like the watermark feature in the LR3 beta.

When Victoria suggested the Print module, it was not to print to paper but rather "Print to JPEG"... So this is somewhat similar to export with LR2/Mogrify.

i know that. where in the print module can you contain the output jpeg to the original native pixel count though. When i stated that printing is something i do rarely it was with regard to workflow, ie i wouldn't know if the module was easy to use in a workflow or not.
