Volume not seen in browser, file locations inconsistent

I recently upgraded from v1.'. Mac OS 1'.4, Quad G5 with two internal drives, four sata drives attached through a port multiplier into a four bay JBOD. The catalog created was created through the LR upgrade previous catalog routine. Within the upgraded catalog's folder browser I can see five of the six physical drives, the missing one is on the external drive box. If I import a folder from the "missing" drive, they appear in the folder structure associated with the one of the internal volumes (drives), the one with my system folders. My LR catalog is not installed on the system drive, but is on the second internal drive. Why doesn't the fifth drive show up in the browser? When I look at a folder of pictures within the system folder structure, LR's grid view counts all of the images in the folder but the folder browser, although highlighted, does not.

There are other inconsistencies but at the risk of further complicating this question, I'll ask-
1) Why the fifth drive/volume is not in the browser?
2) Why isn't there consistency between the external drive/volume folders with the folder structure within the system drive/volume folder?
3) Why when importing from the external drives do the new photos not show up on the external drive's LR folder but though the system folder's volume list?

working update and volume browser issue

Since my first post I've been on hold for over an hour with Adobe, waiting for someone from expert support since I took this as an installation related issue.

In the meantime I've created a new catalog and have begun re-importing image files. So far everything is getting placed correctly relative to the volume browser. I've imported something from each volume and now they all show up in the volume browser The system folder only shows the few images I store in the pictures folder. None of the other physical volumes are showing up there.

The only glitch I see is that one 375GB drive/volume in the volume browser that has less than 1'GB of files on it is indicating that it is full (red label) when it is not. I'll try quitting and then reopening LR when the current import is done in a couple of hours to see if it can correctly recalculate the volume usage.

Adobe support is brilliant - I've been on hold so long that I've had time to experiment and solve my own problem plus share it with other users. Well, perhaps this is not the fastest way to get it done but so far it works which is better that the opposite. Will post again later to update final results.

Chuck, welcome.

Your problem is a little complicated for a quick off the cuff reply. Personally, I'd like to see screen shots of the Lr folder/volume browser, and maybe a Finder view of the actual drive arrangement. I'm getting lost in all the details.

If you think you'll be participating frequently, it's helpful to readers and contributors alike, if you build a signature block with pertinent computer and software specs. Camera and personal stuff (maybe a preferred name?) too if you like. Click 'User CP' at top right of forum.

Hang in there Chuck, also if you have created a new catalog you will not have information from the original such as collections, etc. Fill in you sig block, take a deep breath and wait for some responses. More harm than good can and has been created by charging full steam ahead.
Slowly, slowly is my catch-phrase now!!:lol::lol:

Thanks for the replies. I built a signature with some of my system specs. I'm not sure detailing my camera systems is really relevant unless I were having trouble importing.

Update - I went to the trouble of creating a new catalog and re-importing all of the folders which I determined would be ultimately a simpler and more assured way of getting this done without the stress and hassle of trying to fix the "converted" catalog. The new catalog build went well and now my problem has to do with backups via Retrospect which has a problem with the folders that contain my LR catalogs. I'll work around that until I can sort through it and delete or move the v1 catalogs I no longer need and narrow down the source of the problem.
