I often create a virtual copy while working in LR. I am first working on my raw(nef) files. Then, I convert my images to dng's. When I do this via the library/convert to dng setting, virtual copies and the changes/edits to them are lost. If I export the files, the virtual copies are made into real copies.

I am wondering if there is a way around this. It is much cleaner to use the convert feature and have the original files deleted. When you export, you then have to manually delete your original files. Small point I guess, but less steps = less steps.

Anyone have any input?

hey there

welcome....

Convert your NEF files into DNG's on import before making any adjustments, and then all your VC when created will be DNG VC's.

Welcome to the forum courtleve!

Brad's suggestion is the same as mine - convert to DNG on import. That said, your Virtual Copies will still only be saved in the catalog - they aren't saved in the XMP in the DNG file.
