Using "User Presets"

I am using LR 2.6 and was wondering if there was any sort of trick or setting I need to have for downloaded User presets to look like the way they are advertised.

I downloaded several color and B/W User presets, imported them into the User Preset module and when I use them... for example when I use something called "SoftBW Fadeaway" it is anything BUT B/W Fadeaway.

After applying the preset, the pic is still in color, WAY overexposed and super-saturated. Most all my other user presets behave in this fashion, with varying degrees of photo-nastiness.

Not sure if I am doing this right....

Ray, welcome to the forums. I guess the first question is are you working with raw or JPG(or other RGB type) files? There's a significant difference in the way Lr works between these types, and the presets wouldn't be interchangeable. Most presets are intended for raw types, so if you're applying them to JPGs, expect problems.

If that's not it, give us a bit more info, or the steps you're taking. Perhaps the exact preset you're applying and where you found it, so we can give it a shot too.

Aha!

I think you nailed it. I am working with Tiff/JPG files... (Still trying to finalize my overall workflow)

I'm waiting on some software updates from Nikon so I can read their "new" NEF format (Thanks, Nikon...... >:D)

Once I get that in place I should have a better workflow and be able to work in RAW directly.

[/quote]I'm pretty certain that LR 2.6/ACR 5.6 will read the latest NEF formats. Have you tried to import a NEF from the card directly into LR?
