Hi

I've just spent my pension on a new PC with a 2TB NvME drive for LR catalog and my photos. I copied the catalog and photos to the n=NvMNE drive & double-clicked on the catalog on the NvME drive but LR doesn't "see" the same NvNE drive where my photos are stored. How do I get LR to see my photos?

On a related matter, can I get LR showing disk drives other than the one which stores my active photos (I have backup photo drives and LR wants to show me these, I want it to ignore them)

Thanks

When you "Copied" you catalog and photos to the new drive, if the drive letter is different - say D: instead of C:, you will have to Reconnect the images to your Catalog. It's all about the what the Drive letter was when you imported the photos to begin with. But it should be an easy fix.

What is the drive letter now? Where you copied your Cat and photos to?

Hi, thanks for your reply. The drive letters were different which didn't help. I've worked around it by setting LRC to "Add" Import the photos, even though it's a very fast NvME drive it's taking a longish time but then I do have a lot of photos. Will leave it importing and hope that fixes it.

Any idea how to stop LRC from "seeing" backup drives in its list of folders?

Okay, that's not working. When I select the photos folder on the NvME drive and choose Import and Add LRC reports no photos to import but the photos do not show in the catalog. Flummoxed.

The photos don’t show as missing on the NvME drive. Incidentally they do on the drive ehere I copied them from and the backup drive.
The photos are in the folders on the NvME drive but LRC won’t add/import them, says no photos to import. I’m completely flummoxed.

That's great. You look for them in their "old" location and follow the Find Missing Photos instructions. Once you've done that, they'll show up under the NvME drive. Do not reimport, or you'd lose all of your edits.

Okay, so you still have the "Old Drive" and their photos, and your new "NvME Drive" with the photos you want to relink to. So, you want to point LR to the New NvME drive, so LR is reconnected to the new location. We're trying to get LR to only see the "New" location. So LR after, won't have anymore "Missing Files".

Wendy - you are using the "Locate" button? Yes?

Do you mean NVMe as in "non-volatile memory express"? If so, that is simply the description of the type of storage. Your PC should have given that NVMe card a drive letter like C: D: E: etc. Check in File Explorer. Click on "This PC". That will give you a list of your drives. You should see one shown as having 2TB. Nowhere will it say that it's an NVMe. Nothing will have the name NVMe. As far as Windows is concerned, it's just another drive. Lightroom will see all the designated drives. Let's say it was given the designation D:. Lightroom will see it as D:. If you like, you could right-click Start and go into Disk Management. There you can change the drive letter from D: to any other letter you like even Z: but then you need to tell Lightroom that the catalogue now on drive Z: even though it's still the same physical drive. In Disk Management you could also add a description of that drive such as "NVMe" if you like but it has no effect other that to remind you what it is.

Yes, I do and drive is named and letter allocated. Problem resolved, photos on NvME drive visible in LR.
I agree with BobT,, it is funny at some time LR imported from a drive call NvME. Somehow it obviously got that name for whatever reason. Does it show any Drive Letter? Just for us, what is the Drive letter that you reconnected all your photos to... that you said worked? So, on the left side panel in Library Tab, at the TOP, can you see two different drives?

Oh., okay, so only you are calling the Drive NvME.. but it is really drive W. Got it.

So, once you see all your photos are back, reconnected. You can delete that M drive - from within LR. Because you don't need to see it anymore. Or the extra photos. But that is up to you. Depending on your use of that M drive. Any backup drives really don't need to be connected to LR in any way. I know you only used it to get back your photos.

So - all good?

For simplicity's sake. Next time we usually just talk in Drive letters. And External drives. (Because they can cause different issues) But any internal are just another Drive letter. lol

There might a an easier way,, and maybe someone here can speak up. But if you Right Click on each folder and Remove. Do them all one at a time UNDER that drive you want to not SHOW in your Catalog. It will remove link to all those folders but leave the images on the drive.

While using ANY drive with LrC (latest ver) on Win 10, I get drive errors which force a crash. If I have windows check and repair the drive, no errors are found. Is there anything I'm doing to cause this?

Have you done the Optimize Catalog? If this is all good - I would do an uninstall and reinstall of LrC. Very strange. What kind of Antivirus program do you use?

If you haven't already, you probably should go into BIOS to ensure that the drives you think have are actually there. Then into Windows Disk Management to make sure everything is fine there as well.
