I am having issues with the desaturation of my images once they are uploaded to the internet. When I view the uploaded image on the same monitor the difference between what it looked like in Lightroom and then in the Firefox browser is significantly lighter. I have viewed the image on my wife's computer and it looks the same as mine but not when viewed in Lightroom. It is a "crap shoot" as to what my finished image will look like.
I could use some help.

Hi David, welcome to the forum!

You need to set the colour space of exported photos to sRGB when exporting for the web. I'd bet you've currently got it set to Adobe RGB or even ProPhoto RGB. Most web browsers aren't colour managed, so they don't know how to translate those numbers, and will simply assume that the photos are sRGB.

No it is set to sRGB.
To be clearer, the preview and images are over saturated as I work on them. When they are uploaded to Flickr they look really good. Just not the same as what I am working on.

Ah, in that case, how have you calibrated your monitor? I'd guess your monitor profile may be corrupted.

Can you tell us a little more about your system specs - Mac or PC would be a good start. Most tend to put basic specs in their signature to save asking too often.

I'm running XP Pro dual monitors. Main is Samsung, second is Philips. 2.8mz 2 megs of RAM. I have been working on the calibration and have it where the images on the net look right and when I view them Explorer they look right. As I look at others, work images look great. My desk top image looks perfect, as I would have it look.
It seems strange that in any program the image would look different.
I understand that Lightroom is working in ProColor and that there is no adjustment or calibration in LR for Color.

Some programs are colour managed - Photoshop, Lightroom, etc. Other programs aren't - your desktop, most browsers, etc.

So how have you been working on the calibration, because it does sound like that's adrift somewhere. Do you have a monitor profile set in the Display Preferences?

I have been using a Natural Color program which came with my Samsung LCD monitor.
The profile is one that I have set. When I have tried to use the sRGB profile the saturation is way off the chart.
My monitor hasn't looked as good as now.
Oh yes I also tried the Adobe program that comes with CS2.

Thanks for your help.

Just temporarily try removing the profile David, and see if that solves your LR colour issues. If it does, that's the problem, and you can decide how you want to deal with it.

It does seem like it's a monitor calibration issue. Rather than try and sort it all out, I would get an Eye-One Display 2 calibrator (about $2'' I think) or equivalent and start over, also making sure that when you export you do it in sRGB.
