upgraded from LR 6.0 to 6.14 - crashes while opening

Hello, I'm on an Apple iMac, OS 10.9.5

I upgraded my stand alone LR 6.0 to 6.14 by clicking on the 6.14 installer link on the Adobe page - installation successful

Now when I click on the LR icon to open the updated version, it crashes while opening - ie. shows the start-up graphic, then dies after 10 or 15 sec.

What are my options ? (note: I also clicked on my LR catalog folder in Applications to open it, but it still crashes)

Resetting Lightroom’s Preferences file can solve all sorts of problems so it’s a good early step in troubleshooting:
