upgrade 1.4.1 to 2.x

sorry to drag the conversation back a bit to the good old days !

I'm about to upgrade 1.4.1 to 2. - is there any sage advice ? or should I just bung in the disc and let it do its work. I have solid backups in place and 9'% of my (17'k +) picture files are on external hard drives.

Chris, it should go flawlessly. But the advice is as always: Make a backup of your old catalog first! Just in case of a power failure or such...

I would recommend making a copy of the preview file as well as I had some issues with conversion where the preview file didn't get updated correctly and I had lost the original files (HD failure). There are changes to the database between 1.4 and 2.
Otherwise it should go as expected.

One other recommendation... Once you're done make sure you bring your version up to 2.3RC. That update is available at http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/Lightroom_2.3
