I updated to the latest version last week and immediately my CPU usage and fans are spinning out of control while in the develop module doing basic editing. Within seconds of leaving LR the fans and CPU spin down as you can see in the attached iStat Menu screenshot in the CPU section where it suddenly lowers towards the right (that is the amount of time it took me to click out of LR and up to my Finder menu).

Also I now have a 2 second delay when I click on a photo before it shows me the image rendered properly (the blacks/shadows get a half-stop darker).

I've tried turning off "Use Graphics Processor" in preferences but there is no difference.

Hoping someone can help me understand what changes there have been in this new release that I can fix. I'm pretty sure my computer should be able to handle it.

How do you have Preferences-->Performance set? Did you select all your images and update them all to Current Process (v5)?

I have a similar issue. Even in the library mode and doing nothing at all... the Mac has even turned off the screen... the fans are tuning periodically and the mac book is very hot

If you click on the Activity Center, does it say it's doing anything? I'm wondering if it's building previews or syncing or something like that.

I've done some experimenting. Sometimes my Mac runs hot/fans overnight even after I have closed all programs and restarted to empty OSX. Time for a visit to the genius bar I guess... but I don't think its an LR issue
