UPDATE: Only 4x5 prints from Lightroom

I'm running Lightroom 2.4 with Mac OS 1'.5.7. When I try to print a photo full-size or in several sizes using the contact sheet or picture package presets, I get a beautifully done print in 4x5 size, i.e. on one-quarter of the paper. If I export the photo to any other program such as Photoshop or even Preview or save the print as a jpeg and print in another program, the size is correct. It doesn't seem to be a printer issue, as it happens with either my Canon or HP printer.
UPDATE: I deleted my Lightroom preferences file as Victoria suggested and restarted the Mac. I removed and reinstalled both printers, testing each in case there was a conflict. Since I recently updated to a Mac, I went to Lightroom on the old PC and did test prints and got correct sizes with both printers.
The print settings on the Mac machine are as follows: I chose 8x11 size paper, portrait orientation. I tried "Maximum Size" without changing any settings, as well as several of the other presets. I've deselected print resolution, deleted all cells and added them back, etc.
I'm not sure what else I can try, but I do appreciate your suggestions! Thanks!

Hi PxlFxr, that sounds like a really irritating problem! Can you tell us more about what settings you're using?

If it's that irritating, you could try moving/deleting your preferences file to see whether it's an incorrect setting somewhere that you've missed. That'll put it back to factory defaults.

Hi Victoria, thanks for your answer! I deleted my preferences file and no luck. It doesn't matter if I select "Maximum Size" or choose one of the contact sheet or picture package layouts. I have both printers set to print at Letter size, portrait orientation. I deselected "print resolution" just in case that was an issue. What other settings should I look at? I appreciate your suggestions.

Can you put up a screen shot of your settings in the print module - the right hand panel, please.

Hi Geoff,
Here are two screenshots of a recent attempt to print. Please note that I've taken the additional step of creating a new catalog and importing my images over to it. No luck. It seems to me that Lightroom is stuck on thinking that I'm trying to print to 4x6 paper, even though I have 8 1/2 x 11 selected in Page Setup.

I'd also have a look through the printer driver settings accessed via 'Page Setup...' at the bottom of the Left Hand Panel in Print. Make sure everything there is consistent with your settings on the Right Hand Panel. Ensure page sizes, etc. agree.

Thanks, Brad. Here is a screenshot of what the page setup looks like for the Canon printer, which looks just the same for the HP as well. I don't seem to have all the nice setup options that I'd have for a newer printer. But again, I'm getting correct print sizes from the same printers on the PC. Whenever I print, no matter what paper size I choose, it prints on the upper left quarter of a letter-sized paper. If, for instance, I choose 4x6 as the paper size, then the print is about 1.5x2, as though it's printing it on a quarter of a quarter of the paper, if that makes sense. If I do a contact sheet, then I get it all nicely laid out, again, on the upper left quarter of the paper.What a puzzle!

FWIW (trying to think of anything!) I've changed to different printer profiles instead of letting the printer manage. No go. It really seems to me that Lightroom thinks I have only 4x6 paper.

Try checking the Zoom to fill option.Also can you put up a screen shot of how it looks in the print module.Thanks......

Ok, Geoff, is this the screen shot you were looking for? You'll note that the photo is completely overexposed, but I've used up so much paper & ink that I did that on purpose. I only left enough color to see what size the photo's printing at.
Zoom to fill doesn't seem to help. Thank you though!

Thanks, that was the one!!First in the Page Set Up have you saved the settings? They should be saved as default.Second, what did the preview look like before you did zoom to fill.Third what does it look like if you view in the print preview, that is after you have hit Print, in the Print Dialog box preview?

Geoff, thanks for hanging with me. Yes, I've saved the 8.5x11 setup as the default. Before I did the zoom to fill, the preview looked like an 8x1', as I had selected "Maximum Size" as my preset. Here's a screenshot of that preview.

No problems, it is whacky!! The preview, etc all look as they should!!
You seem to have done all the correct things. But we must be missing something somewhere!!
Next thing can you try to the Print to Jpeg option please and see what that produces?

I have tried the print to Jpeg option and neglected to mention it on this forum. I saved a print and then opened it in both PS and Preview and printed them. They both printed in the correct size on both printers!

Ok, Geoff, that took a lot less time than when I created the new catalog & imported all my images! But, I'm sorry to say, still the quarter-sized photo, no matter which catalog I print from.Sheesh!

Yes, it happens with all files, unfortunately. It's been going on for some time, and I've just been exporting to another program to print. Today I decided I'm just not going to take it anymore! :icon_lol: It seems to me that I might have tried printing on some 4x6 borderless paper several months ago. Maybe this all started then. But if that's what triggered it, then why does it print correctly in other programs, and if I save to jpeg?

I am following the discussion with bated breath. Printing (in LR or otherwise) has always been a bit of a black art to me. Never got it right first time what with colour profiles, sizes (and alignment), colour, brightness etc. It appears to be something that is overlooked by the software manufactures. One day I hope we will have a proper print preview and that what gets printed is exactly the same at the preview.

Ok, if you haven't saved these settings as a new preset, please do by hitting the + in the Template Browser Pane name.Also you could delete the preset you are using and try creating another from scratch ( and saving it).
In fact try option one then option two....... :eek: :eek:

Done and Done, with a different photo and the other printer, I might add, but the same results both times. This is getting exciting!

Can you find the template, it will be inUser/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom/Print templates/User templates and post it here please..............

Geoff, I'm trying to see if I have an application that will zip the file, as the forum software isn't allowing me to attach a .lrtemplate file.

Darn! Here is the error message I'm getting: You cannot upload that type of file. The only allowed extensions are gif,jpg,pdf,png,txt. So, the zip didn't go either. Send by email?
