Unrepairable Catalog!?!

Several times now LR (2.3) has frozen while in Develop Mod causing force quit. Upon reopening LR warning pops up of checking integrity - then must repair - then cannot repair causing complete loss of everything in that catalog!

1. Is there anyway to salvage or repair the catalogs?
2. Why is this happening?

Thanks for any help and please advise of other posts dealing with this issue if exists.

Are you doing back-ups?

You can contact Dan Tull of Adobe at dantull at gmail dot com and explain you probel and ask if he will work on you catalog. He has had great success on repairing them and researches what happens to them and possibly how it can be prevented.
