hey everyone,

I'll get straight to the problem! every so often while I'm editing my photos in Lightroom 2.2 the screen where you view what image you're working on turns grey. What is odd about this is that all the functions of Lightroom still work, however I can't interact at all with that middle screen (where you view the image-- not the filmstrip or zoom screen at the top left) at all; I cannot right click nor can I do any adjustments. the filmstrip still works..I can still click on library and develop, and the corresponding adjustments... it's so weird. Restarting Lightroom solves the problem.

Anyway, I've tried to reinstalling but it does not seem to fix the problem.

There is one other thing that seems to be wrong, I have abnormally long camera import loading times (half a minute to a minute per raw photo) and long exporting times (usually half a minute or less; exporting 16bit TIFF and the rest of the settings are the defaults).

My system:
2.2GHZ AMD 64 processor (could this result in long importing/exporting?)
2GB of RAM
Nvidia Gforce 94''GT 512MB

p.s.
Lightroom has frozen on me twice but not since I reinstalled it. When I looked in the task manager I saw it was using 99 CPU and over a gigabyte in memory. Is this odd? mind you guys, this is a custom built PC with a new motherboard and processor, perhaps it should be given a closer look? just a thought (:

Thank you very much to whoever can help out! I am new to this forum and it looks like there is a very knowledgeable community here (: Let me know if you need more info.

p.p.s. I've checked the catalog integrity and it says that it is ok.

Jope, Welcome to the Forums

Probably the first place to look is the nVidia. You should verify most recent drivers, and if possible ensure that the nView desktop management software is disabled.

That said, there seem to be some eccentricities with the 2.2 release, and your slow processing time / memory maxouts, have been associated with that.

Check the nVidia stuff, and maybe consider a temporary downgrade to Lr 2.1

thanks for the info mate. interesting thing.. I tried to update my nvidia drivers and I got an error message saying

"The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."

Not sure if this is an error message saying that the latest drivers are already downloaded...or something else. Even though I looked at the current drivers in dxdiag and the newest on Nvidia's website and there's definitely a difference. oh wells.

I did disable the NVIDIA desktop manager though, maybe that will help! I will continue to take advice and let you guys know if LR stops working again. Hopefully this problem (and others in version 2.2) will be enough for Adobe to bring out a new patch quick!

thanks again.

I can't help but wonder if that's actually 2 separate but related bugs, as I've seen the 'mouse won't do anything in the middle' bug on my Mac too, but the grey boxes is most likely graphics related.
