Version 2.3 wouldn't import my ARW files. Now version 2.4 automatically opens the import dialog everytime I insert a card. I uncheck the approiate box in "import" preferences and everytime I reopen LR 2.4 the box is checked again to automatically open the import dialog. I don't want to import to LR from my card. Anyone else with this problem???

Welcome, GARich.

Just a clarification, are you seeing the actual Lr import dialog, or are you first getting the Windows AutoPlay/AutoRun chooser list? (Presuming you're on Win, you don't say what OS you're using?)

I have seen this behavior on two of four systems I have updated.

Vista 64 bit installations had the preferences changed to launch on card detect. The 32 Bit and the Mac OS did not.

Both systems appear to have accepted the change back and are not launching now.

One last thing I can think of to check. See if apdproxy.exe is autorunning at Windows start-up. This was/is? used by some other Adobe s/w for media detection, principally PSElements, I believe. That sometimes causes auto import problems. I don't believe that's the case here tho', because of the 'resetting' of the preferences item checkbox, which is mysterious to say the least.

Have you tried forcing the preferences file to restore to default? (Usually accomplished by moving/renaming the existing prefs file, so the Lr will create a new one.)

I've heard another report of that setting not 'sticking' on some systems too.

The apdproxy.exe file isn't running on my computer. I tried renaming the preferences file so LR would create a new one. That didn't work either. I've reported this as a "bug" in LR 2.4.

Thanks for your help....

I have the same problem. I've never had this problem in the past. As far as I can tell it started at the last update to LR. I hope they fix it soon. It's driving me nuts :) I've checked to make sure adproxy is not running anywhere. If I uncheck the box in LR on the import preferences menu it goes right back to being checked again the next time I open LR.

I have the exact same problem using Windows XP.
It started after upgrading to 2.4. I posted this yesterday and had a reply that this was a known issue.

Where did you post that??

There are several threads about this over on the Adobe forum. This is one of them.

Adproxy.exe (or Adobe Photodownloader 3.') hasn't been installed with Lightroom on Windows since at least the later versions of LR1.

Deleting the preferences didn't work for me. I filed a bug report this morning and suggest that anyone else having the problem file one too.
