Might be a solution somewhen on this blog but wasn't able to find it.

I can't import my photos from my iPhone after upgrading.

I automatically updated Lightroom to 14.0.1. I have an iMac on macOS 13.7.1. My iPhone 12 ProMax is on iOS 18.1.

When attempting to import photos from my iPhone LRC is able to detect the iPhone. After upgrading to iOS 18.1 LRC detected the images and loaded dark placeholders of the images. But after selecting the Import button the application seems to just sit.

I can maneuver around the application; it's not frozen. Just not importing.

Hi,

Just an idea.
Check that you are using a data cable and not a charging only cable to connect the iphone to iMac. They look very similar and are often unmarked.
Regards

Just another idea.!
Use the Lightroom App on the phone (that syncs photos to the Lr cloud), and turn on 'Sync' in Lr-Classic.
Done.! The photos will automatically download to the Mac LrC catalog.
SYNC SETUP IN CLASSIC

Does the macOS Image Capture app manage to access them ok? I know there were some device issues on macOS Sequoia, I'm wondering if Apple broke something. I use sync as Rob suggests, works great!

The OP is reporting macOS 13 Ventura.

When I connected my phone to my Mac, I got a message saying "that a software update is required to connect to iPhone or iPad". And that High Sierra or later was required. I am running Sonoma V14. When I let the Mac download and update one file, I was able to see the iPhone 15 ProMax running iOS 18.0.1 in the import dialog but all of the thumbnails were blank except 3. I selected those three and started import. Iget the sync paused message and the import time lie shows but nothing gets imported. I had to cancel the import manually.

I tried again, this time with a newly acquired phone photo.. It was blank in the import dialog , but the import hung as before.

I think there is a problem with LrC v14 and the iPhone 15 ProMax running iOS 18.0.1 but I can't tell whether it is an Apple bug or and Adobe issue or a permissions issue. I am updating my phone to v 18.1 to see if that makes a difference.

Like everyone else, I use Lr on my phone to import m iPhone photes to iCloud where they automatically sync to my master LrC catalog. So I had not noticed this import behavior.

After updating my phone to iOS v18.1 I tried the import dialog again and this time I was able to see all of my thumb nails building slowly. I selected two recent images and the import took much longer that normal but I was able to successfully import the two photos.

I note the OP say iOS is v18.1. Can they be sure since I initially made the mistake of thinking I was on v18.1 when I was on v18.01? V18.1 made the difference for me to import.

It is iOS 18.1. Updated Oct 29, 2024
Do you see thumbnails in the import dialog? Have you tried importing just one of the images? How long did you wait before canceling the import process? I imported 2 images and the import took several minutes. I'm trying this again and still waiting at 3 1/2 minutes.

In the past I would wait about a minute or so for the images to show. Typically I'm uploading about 100 images.

Currently, I am not seeing any thumbnails.

Hi,

I just had a similar problem, iPhone pro 16 with IOS 18.1, mac mini sequoia 15.0.1, LRC 14.0.1

Connected phone to the imac and started LRC. Using NEW on the import screen, all the non previously imported
photos showed up on the import screen but not todays iphone photos. I then selected ALL on the import screen and todays photos showed on the import screen along with all the other others in the iphone. I then switched back to NEW and todays photos remained along with anything else that i had not previously imported. Not sure what is going on, i suspect IOS 18.1.

Regards

Not seeing the thumbnails may be because of the MacOS version and not triggering the message that I got to update.

I think this issue is real and not sure whether it’s Apples or Adobes problem.

I suggest creating a bug report which I can support.

In the meantime I suggest that you use Lightroom mobile the sync your phone images to the Adobe Cloud and back down to LrC

I repeated the process a third time and selected two images to import the Process started but after 5 minutes the process was still on zero. There is definitely a problem with LrC v14 and iOS v18.1 importing.

I went to submit a bug report as you suggested. It appears that other folks are having problems importing and exporting files with LRC 14.01. These issues include importing from memory cards, phones, etc.

I didn't submit a separate bug report...
Thanks for sharing the link. It would be worth commenting on that thread with your operating system version and the symptoms you're seeing as it'll help Adobe get a feel for how many people are affected and possible links between cases.

With this kind of issue, there's often more than one cause, and due to the small number of people reporting issues, I suspect that may be the case here.

I may have missed it, but I can't see whether you tested whether Image Capture app could access them ok? If so, it would be interesting to copy those files to the hard drive and then see if LR can import them from there.

Yes, I was able to import the image using Image Capture and then accessing it into LRC 14.01.

My preference is to use LRC directly since it creates the folder structure (using dates). Does the fact that Image Capture was able to do it so quickly tell us anything useful?

Greg, my apologies for missing your reply. That Image Capture was able to do it tells us that the operating system can access the phone, which it can't in many of these reports. And that LR can import the same files from the hard drive rules out an issue with the files. So yes, it narrows it down to an interaction between the phone and Lightroom itself. All useful info for the engineers.
