Unable to import photos

I came across a strange problem I seem to be unable to solve.

I've been using Lightroom 3 beta since it's launch without a serious problem. Yesterday I sat down at my computer to dump my 16gb flash card, plugged in the card, the import box came up, I see the images as expected, all RAW off a Canon 5d, make sure the import settings are correct, clicked import, and then nothing happens. I am stuck at this screen.

The card appears to be fine, I pulled the images to the desktop, I can open the RAW filed directly into photoshop.

I tried to import from the desktop folder location, after the first failed import off the card, the option to import is no longer available.

So I restarted Lightroom to import from the folder i pulled off the card, same problem. It looks as if it's working but nothing happens.

I see no error message, nothing. Just a blank loading bar and nothing imports.

I also shot some frames on a different card, same problem.

Any ideas?

I'm on Lightroom 3, OSX 1'.6.2, with 4gb of ram and 12' gb of space left on my main drive.

Got any videos on that card? The beta falls over videos. Restart LR to get the import option back, go to the import dialog, and then uncheck any video files, and it should work.

I have the exact same problem, unless I import to 'root' folder. If I try to import to a subfolder with a datename as 2''91224 it is stuck as described

Interesting Uffe. Can you run through exact steps so we can try to replicate to get a bug report in please?

I found an odd thing here. I have a card with JPGs and one AVI-file. When trying to "Copy and import" to folder the install stops. Only a few of the JPGs visible. Import button is then greyed out. LR needs a restart. But all photos are copied to the right folder. As you said.
But if I instead choose "Copy as DNG and import" the install works. I got a warningmsg that some operations were not performed (the AVI-file). Klicked Ok and get a warning that non-RAW files were not converted to DNG. Klicked ok and ALL the jpgs are imported. Is that a bug or a feature?

I tried to import to the "root" folder but LR wouldn´t let me. Importing to the "user"folder or my user folder works fine. Also importing to a sub-sub-folder with a datename such as yours.

I tried to replicate your problem but everything works fine here. I created a new, fresh catalog, stuck an 8GB (sorry don´t have a 16GB) card into the FW8'' reader and imported. No problems.

Did you try on a new fresh catalog?
Did you ditch the prefs?

Well, today I took a card and formatted. Took one picture, started LR3 and inserted the card into my cardreader. Importdialog opened and I did like I did yesterday: set destination to subfolder, by date, 2'1'-'1-'5 and import went well..
Tried again with destination set to a folder '2'1'' subfolder 2'1'-'1-'5, and I imported the same .NEF file into a new folder named 2'1'-'1-'5, but both subfolders is in my folder named 'negatives' So I actually has two identical subfolders, and LR didn't tell me that the picture already was in the catalog..
I tried a third time, this time with sam settings as in round 2, bit copy as dng. This time I got a subfolder 2'1'-'1-'5 under folder 2'1'..
If I knew how I could post a screenpic of the structure

Uffe, if you have a screen shot, just go down to the reply text box, and hit Preview. That will take you to a more powerful text box editor. At the lower left, click Additional options, which will allow you to choose files from your local drives to attache to the message. Note the technical rules about permissible file types and filesizes, just below the chooser.
