Two instances of same local disk, but with different photos?

I'm finally starting to understand the workflow of multiple catalogs, exporting/importing them to work on different machines, etc. So now I want to clean up my main work catalog and export it to my external drive. A weird problem I've noticed (and I'm not even sure how it even got this way) is that in the Library module in the Folders section, there are two "Local Disk (C:)" areas, which refer to the same internal C drive on my work computer, but have different photos in them. :icon_frown:

How does this happen, and what can I do about it?

Would exporting each to its own catalog, then importing one into the other work to consolidate?

Thanks,

Gabe

Hi Gabe, sorry your thread got missed. That sounds like a remnant of the 2.' bug that created ghost folders. Any chance you can post a screenshot of your folders panel so we can see what we're dealing with, and then we can point you in the right direction.

Hi Victoria, thanks for replying. I have a screen shot, but had to collapse the drive headers to be able to see both, since they are full of folders. They do have different contents, which is strange, since they are referring to the same drive.

I'm thinking that part of the problem is that I didn't fully understand how catalogs worked for awhile and had been using a backup program to back my work catalog up to an external drive, then tried to just open the catalog up from the external on another computer which didn't always work as expected, event though all of the folder structures for the photos was the same.

Not sure how it happened, but I am in the process of trying to clean up and consolidate. I have exported the entire catalog and photos to a new location by selecting everything, and am working with that now. It's a big job, as there are tens of thousands if images, but alas, it must be done or I will go crazy! Thanks again for any input.

Don't worry, I've seen that one before Gabe. It's a result of a really old bug that's since been fixed, and the root paths are just showing differently.

How many folders in each? Do they have parent folders or are they just a really long list of folders? Does one have less than the other?
