Hi!

Has anybody found a way to turn off the interface animations in LR? By that I mean e g the zooming effect when you fly into the image.

I sometimes need to run LR over the internet (remote controlled) and then the animations are just slow and bandwidth consuming.

Hi Denis, I use UltraVNC and I can't see any way to stop the LR effects, either in the server or client.
Vista effects are off, but they don't affect the LR zooming.

Which option are you refering to?

OOPS! I do not see it anymore either! It was probably in an older version...

Vista effects to off is obviously the first step. But as you can't do any color work either with VNC or Remote Desktop, what I do to speed things up is that I reduce the color depth to 256 or 64 colors in the VNC client. I use it remotely just to make selections, export to JPEG, search and things like that.

Yeah, that's how I use it too.
I hate working with only 256 colors though, instead I rather use high jpg-compression and full colors. The speed is tolerable. The zooming and smooth scrolling is annoying but not a big problem. It would be nice to be able to switch them off...

I use UltraVNC. No idea how to switch off animations but I wouldn't be at all surprised if you had problems with some of the dialog boxes failing to appear. It's a problem limited to older design dialogs, but can be baffling if you don't know about the issue. From what I hear, the built-in Windows remote control software plays better with LR.

Well, the best place to have the options would be in LR. I was thinking maybe a registry hack or something ;)

I use windows own remote desktop also and generally, the display works better than VNC.
But with large bitmaps such as photos, switching on the jpg-compression in VNC really, really speeds things up. This leaves remote desktop in the dust.
AND the zooming is still there in remote desktop. You get an intermediate picture, half zoomed, downloaded before getting the final zoom level picture. That's just a waste of time.
